getting behind the wheel of the 69 and taking it for a spin?
She has a 2000 torch red six speed coupe that is her daily driver, and she used to drive the 90 six speed coupe on a daily basis before the C5 came along.
She is no stranger to Vettes, Power, and stick shifts.
I even took specific time when mounting the C4 seats in the 69 to make sure she could reach the pedals (she is right at 5' tall). Not only that, I went to great lengths to mod the car with a hydraulic clutch, power steering and power brakes to make it an easier drive. Top that off with the EFI, and the motor is a tame as a pussy cat when you want to drive it nice and easy.
So what gives?
I would just like to get her view of things, as I am the only one that has ever been behind the wheel since we built the car. In fact, she is the only one I trust to drive it.
So, how should I talk her into this?

How about getting every other vehicle in some state of undriveable (one part way through a tune-up, another part way through an oil change, etc.), get yourself good and dirty (grease, oil, etc.) and then ask her to take the '69 to the parts store to pick up something you forgot to get for one of the other vehicles.

I like the way you think!!!!!!!
Now, what to do to the 2000 that would make it -non-drive for a few hours

It sounds like to me she has already let you know her views. You must have a remarkable woman there 69myway. It seems she has stood by you every step of the way while you were resurrecting a basket case vette into the beauty she is today and your wife knows the sacrifices you and her made to make it happen. She probably thinks that if something should happen to "Killer" while she was at the wheel, she would feel awful. Give her some time, she'll let you know when she's ready to drive it.
By the way. Thanks for reassuring us folks that are struggling with our own corvette projects that nothing is impossible if you set your mind to it. I too have a wife that understands my obsession with my 75 and that's more then half the battle.
Happy New Year to you and your family and keep us posted on any future projects you get yourself into.
Joe V.

Be careful what you wish for, Chris. (This is Mrs. TZ Racer) Like you said, Nikki has her Corvette. Another spin on this from a woman's view point. I am looking forward to driving Bruiser, as you have named Dave's Vette, but only once in a while.
I do not want to be known as "driving the hubby's car". Killer is(and Bruiser will be) definitely identified as "man" cars. Nikki and I like to have our own "car" identities. Killer was your project, your car. Bruiser is Dave's car all the way. My enjoyment will be watching his grin the first time he gets to really try it out.
Old school here...when in a man's car my place in in the passenger seat holding on.
My car....different matter. Enjoy your ride. Someday Nikki will be courious enough to want to try it herself.
I just know this post will upset some woman reading this! Bail me out Chris!

My wife drove my other love, a '99 Ford F-150 XLT, twice. Both times she brought it home scratched over the driver side rear wheel well. ( forgot it's longer than her Maxima).
She's asked to take my '79 C3 to work, and I've managed to keep her at bay with "problems" with the car. She's 5'1", and says she can't see the front of the vette. Yeah, like I can...
I don't have a suggestion for you, just wish that was my problem.
Good luck, wish me the same to keep mine in the passenger seat!

NAW..I sorta agree. I have my OWN Vette(which BTW I have owned longer than Hubby has owned his!!) and Hubby has his. I drive the C4 occasionally but it is not MINE and vise versa for Hubby. When we take the C4 HE drives, when we take the C3 I drive. Everyone that knows us KNOWS the difference!

I really hate when someone says ''Nice car, your husbands?'' when I am driving the C3.
Hubby has been a HUGE help when it comes to modifying the C3...but it is MY car and I have made all the decisions. There have been times when we have disagreed but in the end it is MY car and that is that...but the same holds true for the C4..that is HIS. I have to admit that I really HATED those A-mold GS wheels he put on it at first.... but now...they are OK.

You can definitely see the difference in his tastes to mine...and also...they are a he (C4) and a she (C3)!!
It is interesting, because I used this thread as a way to open some discussion with her.
Unlike me, she is a person of few words. She simply told me that #1, I have never really asked her if she wanted to drive the car (duh, I guess that gets right to it!).
#2, She told me she is just as happy as she can be as a passenger, and it never really even crossed her mind.
So, I end up feeling like a jerk face, because in the matter of one or two sentences she sums it all up.
Now, I HATE driving her C5 almost as bad as I hated driving her C4. She has a personal tag that spells out her name, and she used to have a frame that said "This is not my husbands car". So, here I am driving down the road in the shinny Vette by myself and I have the 19 year old pubescent punks racing around to get a good look at Nikiann who is not driving her husband's car. When they see it is me in the driver seat, I get at least one giggle or grin from somebody when I am out and about. So, If I am driving her machine, windows up, roof on!
So, I have a good reason to steer clear of her ride. Of course, when the C5 needs mechanical attention guess who gets to drive it!
Well, she did say she would take the 69 for a spin around the block sometime soon, but we have now been so busy and the car is at TZracer's shop.
You better believe I will have my camera ready baby!
