I think it depends on what purpose you are buying the car for. If you are going to resell it someday then for certain people it is important. I am willing to pay another 20-25% for it, if it is genuine. Be aware that documents can be faked just as some of the "matching numbers" cars are. Stick the new POP in the oven and bake it for the age effect you are after is what was demonstrated to me from a provider. If you want authentic numbers matching and documentation it will cost. A non numbers matching non documented car will drive just as good, but will not cost as much 25-30% less. This also is dependent on the year, color and options on the car. You are not driving the papers, but papers help prove it is the real deal.
You only have to pay what the owner is willing to sell it for. It is better dealing with individuals than a business, no overhead to pay for.

Having these documents I think can add anywhere from 5% to 50% to the value of the car. On the low end, for a beat-up base car, they wouldn't add much. On the high end, for a rare or highly-optioned car, they are used to substantiate the originality of the components, and could be extremely valuable-the invoice and tank sticker would virtually determine the value of the car.
I have been looking for a low-mileage car, and have found a handful that appear to be low miles, but lack supporting documentation. I can't pay top dollar if there is no proof of mileage. No matter which end of the deal you are on, documents like the ones you mention are very valuable, and they seem to weight more heavily with Corvettes than with any other car.

Documentation is worth a LOT for the more RARE and desireable 'vette models! I have a '71 LS6 coupe that is documented with original protecto plate & warranty pamphlet, Corvette Order Copy ( tank sticker ) sheet, window sticker & Dealer sales invoice. Those 4 pieces of documentation were worth 50% of the price of the car to me, when I was looking for it! I have been offered some very serious money for this car because of it. Good luck in your search.
