True, a lot depends on the driver, the type of driving and personal preference and experience.
In my travels, I have actually had better luck in using mechanical secondaries with an automatic and the vacuum with a stick. I also prefer using mechanical secondaries on a big block- Regardless of trans, since the sheer size will usually accomodate on over-zealous right foot.
On a 'small' engine, such as the 350 Chevy, I think my best all-around street driving experience will be with the vacuum carb. Dumping the gas at low speeds in the wrong gear will only cause my car to buck and bog- Where I think the vacuum carb will tend to keep me out of trouble
