I finally took off my leaking gas tank last night. Yep, low and behold, there was the build sheet. Not very easy to read and not complete, but I know it was built for a dealership in Va. I havent had a chance to try to clean it up a little for more details because I was beat when I got done, not to mention covered with dust and gas. |hammer|

That is so cool. I really hope that I can find mine somewhere on my car. How hard is it to drop the tank?? |biggrin|

Good job Rick you found it! That's so cool! Hey you guys, wasn't there a thread on this someplace here where Juliet, me and the others were talking about where they usually are stuffed in the cars? You might want to try that new search feature. Although, it could've been on a different forum.

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.
Rick,

Be extra careful when you clean up the build sheet. I cleaned mine a little too good. Some of the writing came off with the oil, grime, of 21 years of driving. Use clean water first, then if you need stronger stuff, be real careful. the ink isn't that good...|smile|

Hey, any chance you can take a pic of the build sheet on your tank, and show us what it looks like on a tank? |headscratch|

RXWHITE74 ......Terrific!!!! Glad you found it and got it off in one piece.
I never did find a tank sticker on mine.... looked when we had the rear bumper off...my arm is thin enough...I reached up in there...couldn't find anything. |ohwell|

I am hoping that maybe the build sheet will be in the dash somewhere...that will be the next thing that gets torn apart.

If it isn't there....guess I will have to start looking in the frame...under the carpet..etc etc.

When I bought my car, they guy gave me the build sheet with a bunch of other little things in a plastic bag. About all my build sheet says is the car was originally riverside gold. The rest of the sheet is missing. Ya have to wonder how many of these cars that are missing a build sheet, are actually the way they were built. How many had accessories added and what-not. What I would like to know is this, is there anyone out there making build sheets or trim plates? I understand there used to be a guy advertising on Hemmings for trim tags but I can not find any info on him.

The tank is fairly easy to remove. Drop the spare, remove the lower cover, drain the tank (this is the messy part if you arent running on fumes), disconnect all the hoses you can reach, remove the rear support bolts, remove the support bar bolts and the tank slides right down. Then before you drop the tank completely, take the rest of the hoses off and presto, the tank is down. I didnt quite get the entire sheet, but about 95 % of it. The print is very light, remember it is 28 years old. I just dusted it off and most of it is readable. I will try to scan it when I get a chance. I dont think that even with skinny arms you could reach the sheet with the bumper off. Mine was all the way forward and partially rolled up. I think they were just being devious when they put them there.

Got the answer... They don't do build sheets.. It seems like they would start, as I think they would get a lot of business from people who want one and can't find it.. I'm not sure how much info they would need to do this, but it seems like it could be accomplished.|sad|

There is a company where you can order duplicate window stickers. Their address is:

www.window-sticker.com

I sent them an e-mail to see if they also make duplicate build sheets. Soon as I find out, I will post it... |smile|

I doubt if they can duplicate the build sheets. The VIN # tells them what basic options are in the vehicle, but not the details like the axle ratio and other important information that the build sheet contains. They would need this information to duplicate them. I will try to do a digital pic before I scan my build sheet, just to see if I can show you what info is needed.
