|wavey| Hi All!
I have a question about something that has been bugging me... |headscratch|
When I drive around, or am parked someplace, I find the owners of C3 & earlier Vettes are friendly, they keep the wave going when you drive by, like to chat, & just seem a more personable lot. There are a lot of C4 owners with the same pleasant attitude.

My frustration is that a lot of C5 owners are rude, & seem to have a attitude.

I keep the wave going when I see a Vette going by, no matter the year, or try & chat with them when I can. It's just like I'm asking for money from them.

Is it me, am I being too touchy about this, or do others see this as well? I know someone at work who just bought a '03 Z06 & has copped the biggest attitude! |no-no|

I work with others who enjoy our Vettes, no matter the year, & have met some people out there with the same great attitude. |thumb|

Anyway, I don't want to insult anyone, or hurt feelings. If I have, please accept my apologies. This is just something I wanted to ask about, & needed to just get off my chest. Thanks for the place to rant! |cussing|
Laters! Save the wave!!! |wavey|

The C5ers don't wave very often. I believe they just don't know about the wave. I persnonaly know 2 folks who own C5's and both gave me a funny look whenever I told them "save the wave". They both wave now |thumb|

Vette(s): 1979, 350sb, as my kids affectionately call it "shit brown" Corvette purchased in 1996. 84,000+ miles. Not a show car, but I love her just the same.
Yo JP:
I've posted something similar to this before. Look at it this way...when someone spends $30, 40, maybe 50,000 for a car they have the instant attitude of "I'm better than you". While our cars are still Vettes, the C5er's look down on us because ours didn't cost as much as theirs.

The situation is absolutely the same here in Michigan. Most C4 and C5 drivers don't have a clue what the "Wave" is, and would just as soon lift their heads so they look down their nose at you, than lift their hand and wave!

Don't be discouraged...I think there are probably more C3's on the road at any given time then C4 and C5's, so you're always in good company!

My feeling is similar to most, that the newer the Vette owner, the less likely they are to know about The Wave.

Here is my reason... I think a lot of new Vette owners bought them because they are hot cars, not because they are "a Vette!" or because they have a huge history. They just buy it because they think its hot, and will turn heads as they drive.

I think we've all experienced it, but I gotta tell you. The first time I passed a Vette in mine, I passed a Pair of Bright Yellow C5s, and the guy in front launched his head and hands out the window to wave, and the people in the convertible both stuck both hands in the air(top down of course) to wave, its one heck of a thrill! I of course waved back with as much entusiasm. Point is, they may judge us by our cars, but we cannot return the favor. I think the only person who didn't wave was a guy in a pink '76 and he went out of the way to avoid me. So there yah go, wave at everyone and have a good time! Its worth it to enjoy life.

I think we all have expierienced the non waving vette owners no matter what year vette they own. I wave at all vettes and have used various wave techniques from the full arm extension with the hand and fingers fully employed to the 8 finger salute form the top of the steering wheel while thumbs are clamped tightly around wheel. There was a thread somewhere on one of the sites that described the various wave techniques there are for those of us who comply with "The WAVE".
It's no big deal if a fellow vettester dosen't return the salute,
offtimes I don't see another vette until it has passed me and I immediatly go into "rearview mirror reverse handwave" hoping that the vette that just passed me sees my aknowledgement in his/her rearview mirror.
I agree with most folks that C-5 Owners just don't know about the wave. Hell, most of them don't even know who Soupy Sales is.
I also believe that a lot of C-5'S out there are leased for the most part as that these folks are not true Corvette Enthusiasts
like us. Next year lease car will probably be a four door.

THere ar two basic Vette owners.

The first is the type that own a Corvette. This person simply made a choice to own this type of car. They may have just as easily bought a Porsche or Audi.

Then there are those of us who have a Corvette. We are fanatics that don't merely own the car but are involved with the car. We learn about it and take great care to understand all of it's significance to automotive history.

Over time, the Vette owner can begin to understand what he or she has and will then understand the significance of the "Wave" . Those that don't come to this understanding, end up with some other car two years later. Only time will tell.

Have fun with your car and "Save the Wave".

Alex hit the nail on the head.... I am a vette owner who loves the tradition of the car. I see it as a part of Americana. I am not a mechanic and don't understand how to do major repairs, but I appreciate everything about the car. I think an individual who buys a new vette could appreciate the car like we do, but there is a greater likelyhood that that buyer is making a choice between several high performance cars, and probably made the choice for far different reasons than we had for purchasing our C3's.

|wavey| Thanks All!
I've felt better after I got to rant a bit & get it out of my system. I guess I never really gave much thought to that, about someone just leasing a C5......hmmmm I'm glad there is a place out here for me to do the ranting!
