Vette(s): My dad owns a 1972 stingray, it is all original, color is white.
so i was out driving my 72 stingray today and for some reason my engine just over heated like crazy im talking like 300 degrees so i pulled over into a farmers driveway and asked him for some water since i lost alot so i filled it up and drove it down the street to my shop and when i got back i opened up the radiator cap and at first cold water came out and then hot water followed thats what i don't get why wasn't the water all the same temperature. also when i was there i jacked up on the left side of the car and then i noticed a puddle of coolant coming from around the fire wall!!! could those two things be linked someone please help me out here!!!!Cry

May be plugged heater core? Stuck thermostat?

If you ran the temp up to 300 degrees, that's hot enough to cause serious engine damage. How far did you drive after filling it? If cool water came before hot, it sounds like stuck thermostat. A plugged heater core won't cause that kind of temp build up. As far as what's leaking, could be hose or anything really from tremendous pressure build up.

And if you have a leak, you could just be low on coolant, which when low enough will cause a lot of problems, including poor circulation.

Which hoses were hot, which were cold?  What was the rad temp?

Keep in mind it may have been low before you ever turned the key.

By the way, it's not the heater core.  But to answer the question find me on Monday and I will show you where the core is on my car.  With the right dash and ducts apart you can see it.
