OK, so Joel and Ken were right about the transmission (cleaned and
polished the valve that connects to the carburetor) and the radiator
(PO had the wrong size tanks installed and crimped over, new ones on
and she runs between 190 & 200 at 80mph) and the horn (the little
foot thing has to be on the ring to depress the brass contact switch)
and the cooler cockpit with a gate valve in the heater line.

What they didn't tell me was that vette's could be jinxed or haunted or posessed... The radio quit while playing, turned out to be that at the exact same time one wire came loose off each speaker, one at the radio, one at the speaker itself, the turn signal bulb on the dash (left side) quit, then came back on.
Earlier today, when the wife & I turned in to the local vette mechanic's place to see if he has a low tone horn, (the PO removed the low tone, the high tone is there) the wife thought she smelled raw fuel. In fact, we lost 1/4 of a tank in a little over 10 minutes due to the diaphram failing (I hate it when that happens)
and dumping fuel into the oil as well as all over the ground (not to
mention the fuel cost). We put it up on his lift and changed out
the pump and found a screw in the tread of the rt front when we pulled
it to access the pump. Turns out it was short and didn't
penetrate but...
We then took her out for a good long shakedown run of about 3hrs including a stop for dinner. I pull in to the drive at the hacienda and hear a loud hissing sound from the rt front. Turns out to be the valve stem has blown out the side (yes, same tire as had the screw
).
Does anyone know a good witchdoctor or voodoo princess that could exorcise this beast?
Alternatively, Joel, you could move onto the back 2 1/2 acres to be closer in an advisory capacity only...
Oklahoma's not too bad this time of year
It was a fun 3 hrs with the tops off.

Okie-homa? I think NOT!
Glad you were able to fix at least one or two problems.
I take it you are new to 'Vette ownership? Otherwise, none of what you went/are going thru would be surprising!
Fix one thing...add ten more to the list!
I'll stay right-cheer in Taxes, tho....

Welcome to my world..."When she's good she's good...but, when she's bad she's really bad. Nice thing about it is you've found a place in C3VR where we ALL can relate. So far in my tenure here I have not me a person who doesn't have to spend time or $$$ to enjoy the passion!
But. if ya wanna know the truth I think it's really just a black thang!

T-Man, you are correct. She is really good when she is
good. I wasn't complaining so much as suprised at the interesting
chain of events.
Fortunately, thanks to those on this website, I have been able to fix most of the probs so the cost is really minimal and I love working on her. I'm not the best or most knowledgeable, but we have them here so I don't have to be!
If it is a black thang, then so be it!!! I love the look of the '80 in black.
It's worth every minute of attention she wants by having me work on her to have the pleasure of taking her out
