I have friend that is getting married and told me its time to sell the vette , its a clean 2 tone silver over blue 1982 with 20,000 miles on it.The only flaw is that the clear coat is hazy around the headlight buckets.(I don't think it can be buffed out)  Now my problem, my wife insisit that I sell my 67,000 mile red 81 its in good shape with the exception of the factory paint is checking and a small rip in the drivers seat bottom. I was looking forward to rdoing it and putting it back as close to factory new as I could get.So the question is should I buy a almost new 82 (for about 10,700) and sell my  slightly above average 81. or  keep the 81 and redo it.

Sounds like you might miis the '81 if it goes. Try to find a creative way to keep it and buy the '82, maybe the wife would like her own blue vette!

I agree with Dave........try to find a way to have both!! You are attatched to the '81, it seems, and you'll probably regret selling. If the '81 is still in good condition, and you've had it a while, I'd hang on to it, if you HAVE to make a choice between the two. my2c

When I bought my '74, Mama said she wasn't gonna get rid of her Z-28 to pay for it.
When I brought the '85 home for "HER ", she told me to get rid of the "pos" Z-28!!!

well I have only owned the 81 since last May, but it is the first vette I have ever owned and I looked for almost a year to get one that had never been wrecked or molested, when I redo a car it takes a year or so to do it right so I would be "without" the entire time. Having both has been brought up (by me) but by having 2 my toy fund would be divided with another addition. I have never bought a classic car that was done ready to drive and show before thats why I am stuck between the two.

[/QUOTE] I'm afraid I'm guilty of having multiple toys too. Love that rod vettebeige! I have a 29 A vintage rod in the shop just begging me to spend money on it!

Just my opinion here.

If your '81 is a 4 spd. I would keep it.

If not, I would dump it and get the '82.  '82's have overdrive vs. '81's 3 spd. auto. (= better mpg)

82's are Fuel injected vs. 81's electronic feedback 4 bbl carb. I'd rather have the injection over a antiquated carb.

Plus this '82 you are looking at has very low miles. Also in Jan.06 Corvette Magazine has the C3 Market values. An average condition '82 is worth $11,500 and good cond. is worth $18,000 + add $500 for RPO N90 Aluminum wheels.

81's are worth a little less. $10,900 average cond. and $15,000 good cond. + add $500 for RPO N90 Aluminum wheels.

And thats my .02 cents.

Good luck, Sarge

Hey Jetta-

Way too funny!! I looked at your homepage and saw your '70 Bug convert. I thought I was the only person on this sight that liked Vettes & Bugs - I have a '67 Bug that I've had FOREVER!

Buy the '82 & keep the '81 also......Yes!!

actually I went to the funfest for vw's at effingham and after that they started sending me vette catalogs every month.I called 3 or 4 times to tell them I never owned a vette and didn't plan on it but I still kept getting the catalogs so then my wife started on me about how I must have a corvette hidden at a friends house (I have done that with my toys in the past) so I figured what the heck I went out and bought a vette, she raised all kinds of heck about it for a week and after that it was "our vette" and she's out buying corvette shirts and all kinds of stuff . So I guess life is good!
