Up at the shop where I have all my work done they have a white 71 coupe/red interior.Luggage rack, fiber optics,auto,350/270/360ft lbs.AC,works, new tires all #'s match. The original owner is selling. No bubba stuff.A real good DD and decent paint. No tilt-tele,chrome is good not perfect but good.no cracks in dash.Car is all stock.I think I covered everything,oh 86,000 org.miles.He wants $25,000.What do you think?I did drive it around the Island and the front end feels tight, don't really rattle and to tell the truth I don't think it's any faster than my 82CE.Anyway tell me what you think.I'm interested in it for my wife.I'm not sure how firm he is on the money.

According to NADA the low retail is 11200.00
and high retail is 22600.00. I would be comfortable with something in
the middle. NADA is usually higher than the actual market is bringing.
If the car is exceptional and you really want a 71, then you need to
decide what works for you.

I think 25k would be top buck for a 71 L48 in excellent condition. My 71 has a lot of performance parts but I do have most of the original parts. After fresh paint and a lot of new stuff mine will apraise at around 20k. I would hit him with a lower offer and see what comes up. Sounds like it could be a sweet ride. I love my chromie. Good luck. I believe somewhere around $18K might not be too bad, but $25K sounds a bit pricy.
That's high for a base 71 coupe, unless it is in MINT condition. Check the frame all over. Check the bird cage for rust. If it's important to you, make sure the major numbers match (frame, engine, trans). I would agree with a price around $18K, but even that might be a little high. It all comes down to how bad you want it and how bad he needs to sell it
.

You are all right on the money.I'm thinking $18 tops.the paint is a 15-20 footer and it has the orginal paint.Get this, car was bought for a girl for a grad pres. Not collage but HS.Must have been responsible girl.I'm just not that up on 68-72's.I needs new carpet.Seats are not ripped at all, just need a good cleaning.Well see how long it sits for that price.Im interested but not $25,000 interested. If he's frim,I have no problem taking a walk zgator 2007-05-04 21:41:58
Glad to see you are not drawn in by emotions.
Not having seen the car, if it's a 20 footer with bad carpet then I think 18k is also too much. Nicer cars are out there.
But that's just me and my 2.5 cents.

Sounds like the guy is fishing for a sucker.
If it needs work, it should go for less than $15K, but there are a lot of uneducated people out there.

Looking back at my June '07 issue of Corvette Magazine, the approx. base value for a '71 t-top is showing:
$41k for Show ready
$27k for Good
$19.5k for Average
$10k for TLC
I would have to agree with the above input. If the car is between Average and TLC condition offer him around $15k.
