Hope you get her done soon. I go nuts when I am close to being done with a project and little things hold me up. I was basically done back in February but I had to wait for a few small things and it drove me crazy waiting. I feel your pain.
Thanks Jim. Its good to have guy's who understand my pain. Hopefull pics comming soon. I put a little time in her every day. Pics comming soon. Terry

Those are very nice.... I enjoyed the Maro pics! My 1st car was a 68 RS/SS. It wasn't as sweet as yours with the white interior. That is sharp!!! Thanks for sharing them. It has to be very rewarding fo you to get them out and share them with others!Tuxblacray 2007-07-03 17:11:18
Thanks for the compliments. I do everything myself except the finished body work and paint. It was rewarding to get one of them out yesterday for the 4th of July Show at the state capitol. The 69 Camaro that is. As every project goes, there is always a monkey wrench thrown in.
The Vette has had a power problem since I finished it. I noticed it when the car was initially started and it would smooth out after it got hot. Well, to make a long story short after a friend of mine had it at his race shop and couldn't figure it out after tweaking the carb and timing several different times, I brought it home and had an idea. The car felt like it was suffereing from vacuum loss. We had sprayed WD40 around the intake and at the base of the carb, unhooked all of the vacuum pieces and still no luck. I was beginning to think that either the carb was bad right out of the box or there was a vacuum leak under the manifold. I plugged breather hole and PCV valve and put about 30 PSI of air into the block through the dipstick tube. Guess what, I had air coming out through the carb. So I had to remove the distributor, carb, drain the coolant and remove the intake. There was a leak into the intake runners of cylinders 6 & 8. There were traces of oil in the runners. There was also gas in the oil. I ran a compression check and all cylinders were between 140 and 150 that's still fine for an engine where the rings haven't seated yet. I replaced the intake gaskets and used Permatex "Right Stuff" around each port, torqued the manifold down and did the air test again. It was now sealed. You would think that everything was good to go. Not so!!! I put everything back together and while I was timing the engine, it quits running. No spark. I had 12 volts at the coil (Pertronix Flame Thrower). I removed the distirbutor and replaced the Flamethrower module with an old one that I had from another car. Put the distriubutor back in and then fired it up. It ran for a few minutes and quit again. It turns out that although the coil tests within specs, it has a short in it and gives off a surge that fries the modules. That was an expensive lesson. So, now I am waiting for the arrival of an HEI with Tach drive that I will install this weekend and hopefully the string of bad luck will come to a close and we can enjoy the rest of the summer cruising.
Holy Crap, the saga continues. I received the new distributor on Saturday, installed it, timed the car and went for a short (8 mile) drive. The stumbling is still there. Took it back to the house and called a friend to come over and get his opinion. With the key on I was getting 12 volts to the distributor. I started the car and Norb probed the lead. At an idle I had about 14 volts. When I cracked the throttle, the voltage spiked/dropped/went away and then back to 14. The spike was as high as 32 and it dropped all the way to zero. The spikes and drops corresponded to the stumbling and exhaust popping. So, thinking that there was an alternator problem, I pulled it and replaced the regulator. Same results. Next we ran a wire direct from the alternator to the distributor, same thing. Next, we ran the wire straight from the battery, same thing again. I wanted to isolate the problem, so we ran hot wire to the distributor and a ground wire to a valve cover bolt. Both wires were attached to another battery on the floor. Guess what we found the problem. The brand new distributor has a problem. Summit is sending a replacement. I sure hope the engine Gremlins go away soon. I am really getting tired of this.

Well, I installed the new, new distributor last night. I still get some voltage flucuations in the power wire to the HEI. At least they are not too drastic now and there hasn't been any drop off or huge spikes. Under acceleration (not under a load) the voltage will jump as high as 18 and as low as 11. Once I hold the throttle at 3,000, the voltage stabilizes. I still don't think that this is normal but at this point I am at a loss and I have never been there before (When it comes to cars that is). Anyone have any info or insight???
Well, Here it goes again. The ignition problem is solved. I am getting plenty of spark and the timing is near perfect. Well, the car still stumbled and sounds like the engine is laying down. It tried to completly quite running on Sunday. I have a fuel pressure gauge on the line and it reads between 5 and 7 pounds. That's where it should be. I went to start it in the garage with the air cleaner off and it puked gas from the front vent tube. It looked like the front front was stuck open. I removed the carb and discovered that there were a zillion blisters on the the inside of the bowls and the metering blocks. They were disintegrating and interfering with the fuel flow. I called Holley and they are sending me a new one. I had read about a batch of carbs that had a problem with the coating not sticking to the base metal but it didn't dawn on me that I had one of them. It is a Holley 670 Street Avenger that was built in early 2006. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this is the last major stumbling block. We'll see.
