This is it... I've been planning on doing a frame off of my C3 for years. I just purchased a C5 convertible and now its time to park the C3... I have a seperate garage with lots of room, plenty of time and frig full of beer...

What I need now is a good book of instructions!

I'm sure you all have a favorite manual, my question:
What's the best manual to show me how to do a frame off for my C3?

And let the fun begin!
Steve

Always read the manual first Steve before unscrewing a bolt ! And by that time it will be necessary to refill the frigde..... should be in my case ...

i'm sure there will be replys with the best manual, i like the ones with the most drawings and pic's : they tell a lot more than text.

Take also yourself as many pics as possible before removing a piece.I have not selden screamed sh*t trying to put it together and having not a pic of it as it was, always thinking i could remeber it....

good luck and what is your time schedule ? a year , 2 years ?

No time schedule...   just when it's done correctly.   The cars about 95% original, while I'm not looking for a NCRS ribbon, I just want to know it's as right as I can get it!

I'll let you know my progress

Steve,

I'm in the middle of a rebuild of everything from the dashboard forward......I.E....Engine, Tranny, P/S, P/B, A/C & a lot of other stuff.

Take lots of pics (different angles),,,,,,,,it's amazing how quickly you forget how things went.  I'm forever running back to the computer for reference pics.

Also, bag & tag all of the nuts & bolts that you take off & lable them.

As for books, I consult the assembly manual more than any other books like the chassis manual of Chilton's guide.

Another help is looking on Corvette for Sale sites (cctol, e-bay etc.) for other restored cars & I save the pics from restored cars to keep as a reference.

Good luck,

Anthony

There are many good restoration guides out there but as has been mentioned, pictures, and lots of 'em, will probably be your best help once you start to put it back together. Bagging and labeling parts is a must, especially the body mounting bolts and shims. Its important to keep an accurate accounting of how many shims are in each body mount position, although with my project, some of the shims merely dissolved into rusty dust when we took them out. Also have the Sawzall ready since some of the bolts likely will not want to come out , especially those just ahead of the rear wheels I found.

Good Luck!!

Lots of Pix is right.  That way you can come here and post them if need be to either document or ask for help.

I found that even my cell phone camera is good for getting into tight places as long as you have some light around.

Good luck

Dennis
