Topic: Just an Update
in Forum: C3 General Discussion
I have not posted here for quite a while and even let my membership lapse, but have since re-upped as a Gold Member and have been on the forum occasionally. Some of you may know me and newer members may not, no big deal. To bring things up to date on my car here is the list of changes in the past year.
- Went to the Pertronix ignition with the higher voltage coil. No significant change noticed, but it did get rid of the points and condenser.
- Replaced seat covers and foam plus rehabbed the frames, that was a 3 night job.
- Replaced incorrect rear spring (10 leaf) with a VBP composite mono-leaf (360#), new front springs 550# and Bilstien Sports all around and the difference is very noticeable. The car sat way too high before and now it looks to be a sports car again. (dropped the front 3 full inches)
- Complete rebuild and re-jet of the not quit correct QuadraJet.
- Removed radiator and had it re-cored, replaced the water pump, all of the radiator support seals and shroud seals, and new upper and lower hoses
- This past month I spent the hottest 3 weeks of July in my garage tearing out my interior carpet and dash to insulate and re-carpet . On a side note to that, about the early part of July I posted a question about removing the Spedo/Tach gages and not one response. Plenty of reads but no answers….To answer the question, dropping the steering column bolts will allow enough room to get the gages out. (Done with Rant)
- In late July a few of my local Vette buddies and I went to the Kansas Speedway for a show and some track time. The weather was horrendous (100+ temps) and the show was very lame, but to get the Vette on an actual banked track was a blast. They kept us paced below 100, but did have a sustained 80-90MPH for about 10 laps. The next day I went back for a NASCAR ride-a-long and that was even more of blast. 160+MPH WAY COOL!!!!!
- My next project is to get that junk GM sifter out and go to a Hurst.
- Last but not least, we, in the St. Louis area have formed our on C3 “Club”. We have no rules, no dues, no officers and no C1 C2 C4 C5 C6. We will have day’s we call ‘Tech Days, where will meet at a garage and work on a members car to the best of our abilities or until the beer runs out. And I am proud to say I was one of the founding members that put this together. We are close to 50 members from all over the MidWest and eastern seaboard.
We Don’t Need No Stinking NCRS.

Welcome back Charlie
As the Eastern Seaboard representative of our little club, just wanted to say "Next Tech Day is in my garage and I'll provide the beer" Ya'll just let me know when you can come out !
I need to replace the Drivers side upper door hinge. I know I need to pull the speedo/tach panel, but my question is this....If I drop the bolts on the sterring column will it swing down enough for me to get the gages out so I can get to the bolts for the hinge?
I found it!! This was posted in the "Body" forum, titled as a door hinge problem. Maybe that is the reason there were no responses....some people don't look at topics they are not familiar with, and maybe it got passed over?
Again, sorry for the oversight....

But still glad to have ya back!

Thanks for the welcome Ben. I really missed your posts and learned alot of stuff just reading your other answers. Good to see your life is in a good state and you have a gorgeous new Wife. I'm planning on going back to Eureka Springs this year so if you are going, let me know and we can get a few laughs in.
Joel, I know your an NCRS guy and my comment was not mean spirited , I'm just making my car the way I want to to have fun driving it.
I think Eric just got a little burned out and is taking time of. I don't see him on CF either.

There were a few posts by Eric a while back, maybe a year ago now....he was in & out for a while, and then he vanished again...maybe visiting the crossbar?!

Hey Charlie...!!!
I thought of you a week ago while at a car show. Saw a '69 coupe that was a dead-ringer for yours and chatted with the owner for a bit (gave him a C3VR flyer so hopefully he's signed up by now!).
If you get a chance pop over to Funfest in September. It'll be good to see you again.

Welcome back! I always notice other forum member's that have '69's.
Did you have your seat belts restored when ya had all that taken out to insulate and recarpet?
