to this new site and aleady posted on the wrong board. Just in the process of finalizing purchase on 80 L82 that I found on e-bay (quite a heart thumping experience). Got a fax of the title today and see that the State of Illinois entered the body code on the VIN wrong (87 instead of 37) so can imagine in for a bit of fun getting that straightened out. Anyone else had a similar problem. The guy I bought it from obviously didn't notice in the four years he has had the car.. I am brand new to the vette scene, finally taking the plunge after waiting a lifetime of 52 years (this is my birthday present for the rest of my life!) so will have lots of questions for y'all. Firstly, seller advises this is original engine with 58000 original miles. How do I check for matching engine numbers and what about the tranny numbers for originality (has auto)? Engine is stock and from all photos and talking to seller's broker (whom I believe to be reputable) car is near perfect and a solid 2. I notice that the speedometer only registers to 85MPH. I have read that 1980 left something to be desired in terms of power. Can anyone tell me how this year L82 performs. I am not looking to leave my hard earned money on the pavement when I leave a stop sign, just reasonable power and fuel economy. Look forward to chatting with everyone. Heading out on Nov. 1 to pick the vette up, from Alberta to Chicago. Sleepless nights ahead! TIA.....Keith

Thanks for the welcome words folks. C3R, in answer to your question, I'm heading to Chi with a friend from Oregon who has an enclosed car hauler. You wouldn't believe the hassle in finding an enclosed hauler who will cross the border, not one. Found one who would haul it open to Toronto and put it on the train to Alberta, then offload and haul to the Calgary Customs warehouse. I don't think so....so I'd rather do it myself. Most of them would Haul to Montana but wanted my first born son plus cash for payment so I'll feel alot better with her in tow 20 feet behind me. Everything is falling into place, now if I could just sleep through a whole night!! Like a little kid on Christmas eve.... |bouncy|

Good to see another Canuck on the board. A lot of water has gone under the bridge since this post. The vette in Chicago fell through at the 11th hour after I had a vette expert examine it. Turned out the owner was somewhat "confused" as to the definition of a number 2. Thinking that there are more than one shark in the tank I backed out of the deal and got all my money back. Good thing that I was dealing with a very reputable broker who didn't hesitate in refunding my money. Found a '72 on ebay and am now going through the final ropes to bring it up from Washington state to Alberta. If any of you Canadians (or cousins to the south) are looking for a good enclosed carrier at reasonable rates, I hired Mackie Transport out of the Toronto area. They do all of North America, door to door and so far, have been great to deal with. Haven't brought the car yet but will let you know if anyone is interested. Anyone looking at buying a vette, sight unseen, it is absolutely worth every penny to have it inspected before you finalize the deal. I was fortunate in my case that the broker picked up the tab for the inspection because he felt that the vehicle had been misrepresented. Now sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the new addition to come. That's one savings account that's closed out. |thumb|

The anticipation can be a real bitch, like a kid in a candy store.you and your teenager are gonna have a great time working on it, riding it, washing it, waxing it,get your wife involved in it,let her put her little touch on it too,she will come around, she may not love it,but she will understand what it's all about, and hopefully jump in on the fun.Join a vette club, there are woman who own vettes and they can help bring her around,in a lot of cases the wives end up wanting thier own vettes, you know his and hers, and there is a womens section here in C3VR just for them ,great ladies and some realy nice vettes, even some racers, check it out.Best of luck getting your vette home ,have a great time with it,get some pictures on the site as soon as you can,we love pictures, any questions jump right in here, theres a ton of info. and we're ready to help whenever we can! I'll tell you whats worse than anticipation of a new Vette! Its getting hit head-on last Monday(3rd),luckily escaping w/o getting killed, and getting your brand new title in the mail the following Friday for a totalled pile of steaming junk.Well, maybe I'll get some sexy nurse for my upcoming physical therapy |cussing|.I guess winters a good time to shop for a new Vette |idea| |saluteflag|

Yeah man I was sorry to hear about your accident, are you gonna be alright ? and what was the deal with that kid that hit you, drunk, drugs ,what?Like the other members said you can always get another vette, but you are a one time deal, you will heal and be leaning over the front fender of your next vette b-4 you know it.It's a bitch getting old but it sure beats the alternative, cheer up,by next summer you'll be driving that new vette, lets hope its a C-3,why? cause SHARKS RULE. P.S. that cute nurse is there to help you,and she might look real nice in that vette next summer. Ron 78 |cheers| |thumb| |cool| |withstupid|
