got rear-ended in my 79 yesterday. thank God no one got hurt.
not sure of the extent of the damage yet. stopped at a red light. the guy came up behind me swerved and caught me on the left rear corner. cracked the body in a couple of places. he hit the rear tire and pushed the back out and the front in. I was ok until I saw it this morning. there was a puddle of oil under the car, about half a quart. didn't leak a drop before. I'm really worried now.

I really feel for ya. The only good thing is no one got hurt. When you really get down to it, it's only a possession, though it seems so much more. It can be repaired or replaced...family can't.
I wouldn't drive it until it's been thoroughly checked out, and don't sign any insurance releases until you're sure it's an appropriate and fair settlement. It's your property, the collision wasn't your fault, and you have a right to have it properly repaired or otherwise compensated.
Go ahead and vent...it may not change what happened, but you've got everyone's support.

thanks, you're right and I understand that. just needed to complain to someone. my biggest fear is that they total the car and i have no opportunity to repair it. put a lot of time and effort into it.

Many times when they total the car you can buy the salvage for a song. In many cases you can then get it repaired for less than what they paid minus what you paid to buy the salvage. The draw back there is you come away with a salvage title that deminishes the value of the car.
Just hope it is repairable and they cover all the repairs.

My first Vette, now owned by JB79:

$6500 to repair my car. $4000 paint and body work. not a complete paint job either. front clip not to be painted. $2000 for the mechanical but could be more because nothing was taken apart. the insurance company is talking about totaling it. says value is between $5500 and $8500. I'm really po'd.

Don't know what to say except for sorry...hope it all works out in the end.
Don't know what to say, but I'm glad your alright and sorry to hear about your car. I think that being rear ended and the aftermath is every vette owners nightmare. Hopefully the insurance thing will work out a little better after all is said and done.
