Hi Steve, the belt tension itself is the main culprit when sqealing occurs . I have a chrome alternator that has a chrome pulley that sqeals when I first start the engine but it goes away after a few minutes of operation . A light application of belt dressing will also help with your problem . But adjust your belts first .

You got it! I've got to have something to do while I'm at work!
Man Grego, where was that picture taken of your car?
Nice wheels!
4webers - Thanks for info. I have tried everything. Belt dressing, tension, alignment! Still squeals. I'm going to remove the pulleys and clean them up real good. Make sure they are all the same type and groove and see what happens from there. thanks again!

Worn pulleys will cause belts to squeel, as will painted grooves. Also misaligned belts, caused by incorrect mounting of accessories sometime in the last 35 years. Dressing is just a crutch. Joe
