AFTER SOME RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND A "L72" CLASSIFICATION IN  ONLY ONE OF MY REFERENCE BOOKS FOR A 1969 427 BB.  MY QUESTION IS--- IS THERE AN L72 IN 1969?  THE INFO ABOUT MY CAR IS AS FOLLOWING:
VIN#  194379S726886
DATE CODE  M12
TRIM  ZQ4
PAINT  986 CORTEZ SILVER
BLOCK CAST # 3963512    SUFFIX LL  ( BLOCK HAS BEEN DECKED)
HEAD CAST # 3964291
INTAKE MANIFOLD CAST # GM39331163 (WINTERS FOUNDRY) 4 BARREL
TACH  -  REDLINE 6500
CONSOLE TRIM PLATE - 435HP, 460TORQUE, 11:1 CR

THE TRIM PLATE INDICATES IT WAS A TRI-POWER CAR - L71, BUT THE INFORMATION LISTED FOR AN L72 INDICATES SAME COMPONETS WITH A 4 BARREL CARB (ONLY FOUND IN ONE PUBLICATION).

I'M A NEW MEMBER TO THIS WEBSITE, AND TRYING TO RESTORE THIS CAR BACK TO IT'S ORIGINAL BUILD.  ANY INFO WOULD BE APPRECIATED!

Engine code L72 was available in 1966 Corvettes, as a 425hp 427, single 4bbl carb.
Engine suffix code "LL" in '69 is for an L36, 390hp, 427, 4bbl carb, hyd. lifter, automatic. The casting # was the same for all late(69) big blocks...this # is for late production biggies. Earlier biggies used the 3935439, or 3955270.

There may have been L72's in '69, but not factory installed in a Corvette.

You may have a car that has had a colorful past!

I'm not sure, but I believe the L72 was installed in Chevelles and full-size Chevies as the high horsepower option.

With the exception of the '70 Chevelle LS6 it was Chevy's intention of keeping the high hp engines for the Vettes and installing slightly down rated versions for the rest of the line.
