Vette(s): '78 Silver Anniversary T Top coupe,58k orig miles.
THM350 auto, 350 L48, JBM headers,Oyster White interior,.as of Nov '15 in process of painting.
I have a 78 C3 with the L48 350 engine..
It didn't come with any hood emblem on the sloped inner sides of the hood like those with the L 82 engine package.
Q:
Did ANY of the C3 cars come with the L-48 emblems on the hood?
I think it'd look pretty cool with the L-48 hood emblems even IF it wasn't standard..
Car is pretty much stock other than it has performance headers and will be repainted with the factory Silver Anniversary 2 tone paint and new decal pinstripe kit.
It's NOT gonna be a show car..I care less about competition stuff these days..
We got it for fun and an attractive, reliable running car for trips and get togethers....Jim

I believe only the cars with the L-82 engine option had the hood emblems so they are probably an aftermarket thing. Hey, if you like them, put em on. L-82 or L-48 they do look nice on the hood, especially with the silver anniversary hood decal.
Welcome to C3VR, Jim. Lots of great info here.
I picked up my '78 Silver Anniversary in April of 2007 and still love it. They are a blast to cruise around in. We much rather go for a long ride on a nice day than sit in a lawn chair at a show.

Thanks for the replies..I have some time to mull it over..Will be done after everything else is done including the new decal-pinstriping..
I know exactly WHERE to locate the L-48 emblems as I found a template for install of the L-82 emblems..Jim

They were not factory installed. If you opted for the optional L82 engine, you got the L82 emblems. If it doesn't have the L82 emblem, everyone knows it's an L48.

I suppose EVERYBODY who knows what an 'L-48' engine is would know..:)
Most of the folks I know wouldn't have a clue what motor and drive train came in the 78 Corvettes..or any Corvette for that matter..
I sure didn't..:)Much of the fun is learning about the Corvettes..of any vintage..and how they were engineered and built and how they performed on the highway as a complete 'system'( or track)
I enjoyed taking the tattered old build sheet I found behind the passenger's seat under the carpet ( when I redid the interior)and getting the original build sheet, factory invoice to dealer, and window sticker for this third owner Corvette. The folks at the GM Archive and another fellow who does the window sticker stuff were excellent.
It's been an Oregon car since it left the factory..We don't salt or put calcium chloride on the roads here for the snow or ice..
Unless one lives in the high country or has to go up and over for work or fun, most folks in the flatlands stay home if we get a dusting..:)
Where I grew up in Western Maryland..we had plenty of snow and ice every winter..
I've already done some small customizing to the car..The black paint around the windshield was pretty shot so I used 0000 steel wool and a rag lightly dipped with acetone and stripped the black paint completely off..
Underneath was the gray base coat primer..That was harder to remove but I got it all..down to the Q Tip crevices by hand...
End result is a really nice polished stainless steel trim-support around the windshield and down the pillars....I also stripped the black paint off that half of the rear window glass so that aluminum trim is all chrome looking..
Really adds a lot to the appearance as these 78 Corvettes didn't get much chrome ..:)
So IF there's two Silver Anniversary vettes parked next to mine at Wal Mart I can easily tell which one is mine..:)
So much for my ramblings.. Jim

note ncrs juding manuel there are no l-48 tags on hood when new no badging on l-82 yes l-48 no I don,t care on put them on my 79 I like them, sometimes you just have to do what you like if this helps I bought nos badges from corvette central dwa

When I pull up to a cruise or show everybody knows it's an L-81 engine. Not...

Until I pop the hood they'll never know.

I wish they made LS1 or LS6 emblem in that old L-82 style font.
