Have you tried the big aluminum heat shield that mounts between the intake manifold and carburetor? Joe
Yea Joe,,,,,,,,, Been there dun that,,, sorry to say little to no help @ all,,, sorry to say,, I can leave the hood open and it helps quite a bit,, so thats when I started thinkin about the L88 hood,, since its open to the rear,, never had a problem till I took it to Bowling Green on the 50th Caravan,,

Nick,
Do you have headers on that big block? If so are they ceramic coated or wrapped? Trying to find out were the heat is coming from if the car is running cool.....

I have the aluminum heat shield that Joe73vette referred to -- it was installed by the PO. It does seem to work as I don't have the carb problem.
Along the same lines though . . . I've always wondered why the "nostrils" on the LS-5 hoods were plugged so as to not allow engine heat out. I guess they're pure looks and 0% function. Anyone know much about this design? I assume they're the same on the '68/69 427's ??

Yes, other than the L-88 and ZL-1, the 68~72 big block hoods were virtually identical (and did not have fresh air intakes). -Jim

You've probably already thought of this but just in case you haven't here's my 2 cents. If there was no overheating before the trip then I would look for something that's changed like thermostat, lower hose collapse, or radiator plugging up. Or fan clutch. Hope this helps. Marc
