Leaving Car on Jacks

Ditto on the Craftsman jackstands.I have had mine up and down for the past year(mostly up)supported just behind the front wheels and just in front of the rear wheels with no adverse reactions.When working under the car I add the jack and oak blocks for additional safety.I must state that my frame is strong and in excellent condition and the overall integrity is good.Safety first everyone!!! |cheers|

OK Before everyone thinks that I am indeed the Village Idiot, let me try this one more time....The car is (actually was, the job is done) sitting on a pair of 4 ton JACK STANDS I purchased from Autozone. Not a hydraulic floor jack. That being said, I really do appereciate the concern for my long term health and the help you folks provide with my hobby. I couldn't do it without you. Thanks! |cheers|

I have mine on stands for about 3 weeks. Noticed that there is enough flex in the chassis that the fan will rub the shroud if I start the engine. So, I also put a 5th jack stand under the nose to keep the car from rocking on the stands behind the front wheel wells (which it does quite readily if you pull the rear suspension and differential out).

Well I pretty much am the village idiot so I have a ?.I haven't had my car very long yet so I'm not sure of this.I did notice a steel plate right under the front grill right in the center.Looks and feels like it's attached to the frame.Is this a good jacking point for a floor jack.I guess I could look in my owners manual but that would be too easy.

NOOOOOOO Way.

The only points you should be jacking with a single jack is the center of the front crossmember between the wheels. On the back under the center of the rear spring.

If you use the plate you are talking about you are liable to bend all the front body mount points due to the extra stress. Most probably cracking the nose fibreglass

i feel alot better about the jack on the rear spring..

ive seen way to many vettes with a huge dent in the front main crossmember to use it for this.. if you must.. please use a 1' long pice of 2x10 to spread the weight out more evenly so you dont wind up with a permanent jack print in the main cross..
