Guys,

I remember reading years before I got my Vette about a pair of Vette repair shops on Long Island that were supposedly very good. I'm at school in NJ and the repair places around home are either amazingly expensive, or run by people I don't know that I trust my car with. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew the names of any places in the New York City Area, or even the I-95 corridor between NY and Wash DC that were reputable and reasonably priced. Thanx!

Scot

PS - Are Chevy dealers to be trusted with one of these beauties?

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.

It isa a ccording to which dealer you go to. I go to a small town dealer, 28 miles away, and he immediately put it in the shop, and it stayed there until I picked it up two days later. they didn't let anyone around it while I wasn't there either. I buy a lot of chevys, and pontiacs from him, and I trust him completely. There is a large chevy dealer, about 3 miles from my home, and I wouldn't let him work on my bicycle. It is about who you trust.

I guess I'm lucky. A Cehvy garage by me acutally sponsors our Corvette Club and we get 15% off parts and service. Cars are always kept inside and they have 2 mechanics that work strictly on Vettes and nothing else. |thumb|

The Chevy dealers around here won't tough my '69. They say the cars get more things broken while trying to fix them than it is worth. Somehow I see their point unless of course the car has had a good restoration and attention went to details.
Scot, if it were me, I would try to find someone near home that has a good reputation.

there are two places I know of near home with good reps....but they're incredibly expensive....and I still owe over half on the car...damn accidents....damn them even more when they're nobody's fault but your own.

Scott---I can recommend without any reservation at all, my mechanic Jerome, who owns the Ludlow Garage (150 Attorney Street, 212-505-0869) in Manhattan. He's busy, so you'll need an appointment. He's honest as all heck, too. While his shop is not a Vette specialty garage, Jerome has a rep for being the best car mechanic in NYC, and can work on any car. I trust my '72 Stingray to him, implicitly. By the way, Jerome has a C4 himself. He has a few customers who are Vette owners. Call up Jerome, and tell him "Scott Wong" sent ya....

Hello Scot,
I live just outside of Washington DC here in Alexandria, Virginia.
On your question about a good Corvette shop to take your car to I would recommend one In Gaithersburg Maryland.
The name of the shop is Tony's Corvette Shop and they are near the Montgomery County Airport.
Tony and his staff are probably the best people I have ever dealt with in my 10 plus years of Corvettes. They are certainly the most upright and honest people I have met in the Corvette world. Once you meet these guys they make sure that you feel like you are in their "family".

I would only recommend them since I believe that they are the most honest and sincerely try to help their customers, by the way they are extremely fair on prices.

Tony Averdisian (SP?) and his staff are absolutly incredible, their knowledge and expertise makes them a rarity in the Corvette World. They have done numerous cars that have been Gold and Top flight cars. But they understand enthusiasts as well and the originality folks.
They have a very large facility with lots of parts (both new and old) for any Corvette from 53 to the current models.
They are technically in the I-95 corridor and are easy to get to from I-95.
I have been taking my two Corvettes to them for many years, I can do most everything but when I need help they are the ones I talk to...FIRST!
Their number is 301-987-0565 but this may or may not be the most recent as they moved a few years ago.
I hope that this might be of use to you in your "Corvette Adventure". I just hope that you are careful out there as there are so many "experts" that wouldn't get to change my oil let alone touch my cars internals.

Best Regards,
Chris McCloskey |saluteflag|
