While it's on my mind.I was outside on break from work and was snuging down some interior screws. What do you all do when you overtighen and strip one?I know it's going to happen to me sometime it's just a matter of time.I've been lucky giving all the old cars (and new) that I've had.Thanks.

You can also re-thread the screw.......if you have the kit around.
You can also re-thread the screw.......if you have the kit around.
Is it the screw thats stripped?I thought it would be to hole.I'll bet ya those holes only have about 3 real threads.A bigger screw would work but along with that a bigger head.I like the paper clip and I've heard of that but had forgoten.
you guys are great.I wish I had more answers than questions.I feel like and anchor insted of the boat

Run a bead of JB weld across the tread and insert the screw after it is cured. It will "create a new tighter thread. Likewise if the screw will bite some use loctite "green" on the screw and snug it up. Sometimes ya can use teflon tape if ya have enuff screw...
I've used thin toothpicks before. Same process as paper clip, easyer to break off extra.
If you can get to the hole in the metal, tap it with a ball peen hammer. That will shrink the hole, then do not over tighten the screw/bolt again.
I have used a flat drift punch through panels and tapped them with a hammer to help close up a hole.
Very good xfire!!ThanksI use xfire's method and it works most of the time. Have used the wooden matchstick, toothpick, or golf tee as well. If all else fales , I've assembled a small collection of screws and fastners that look the same as the cars hardware that are slightly oversize on the threads but have same head size.
I know one thing tho'.Once you go over all the screws the reasults are well worth it.Most if not all the little rattles and squeks are gone.
