Vette(s): 1972 elkhart green T-Top, New paint, one previous owner, 370hp/350, hookers/flowMasters. Original PW,PS,PB,AC. All docs.
Wanted to get some low-profile ramps for general "under the hood" work.
Have found a few out there in drastic price ranges. Just wondering what is
recommended and what company would be good to order from. Thanks
in advance!

You need ramps to get "under the hood"?! Jeeeez! How tall are you?!
Mid-America has some nice, low profile ramps, made for a 'Vette.

Vette(s):
SOLD - "The Toy" - '70 Convertible
SOLD - "The Beast" - '90 ZR-1 (#682)
SOLD - "Betty" - '28 Ford Model A Tudor
SOLD - "BLKBRRD" - '78 Pontiac Trans Am
"BLUBYU" - '04 Coupe

The ones I've seen at various auto parts (NAPA, Champion, Checker, CarQuest) and discount (Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart) stores are plastic and only have a 6 or 8 inch rise (that's not enough room for me to roll under with the current creepers I have - and I don't have that big a belly  ).  Prices at those places varied a little but all were less than the Vette parts places (sorry sponsors!  ).

I was watching some on eBay that had more rise and detachable ramps but the price got too out of hand for me to justify.  Sears used to carry a set like that but have discontinued them.  J.C. Whitney supposedly has a similar set for around $80.

Vette(s): 1981, Black/Black, Engine bumped to about 400HP.Ext/int mostly stock.

I couldn't find any locally that would clear the front spoiler on my '81, so I made a pair out of 2x10s.  For the late models, that seems to me to be the onlyu way to go.  You can then build-in a nice long, slow incline.  I've even seen a picture where a guy did this and, once the ramo got to 12" or so, leveled it off for about 10', so that he could drive BOTH axles up on there and get under the whole car at one time.  Very cool, but due to the space requirements and weight, you'd end up leaving them in place and always parking the car on them - that's what he did.

Of course, if you go the home-built route, THEY MUST BE BULLET-PROOF.  Do skimp and risk you life.

Norsky is right; I have a set that I bought at WalMart and I can't use them; not high enough.  I stick to the jack & stands.

Even if you find some that are supposely fitted for the Vettes, it's still a bi#$& to use, because you have to be perfectly aligned to get on them.  It's easier if you have someone in front of the car to do the initial adjustment; right before you climb on them.

Also, if you have a choice, go for the widest you can find, as the one's I have right now are about the size of the tire; not even a 1/4" of play on either side.

These are the problems I could see happening, and didn't want to end up
with worthless ramps. I wish I was inclined to building ramps like Chesh,
but I really DON"T trust my skills at safe builds like that. I did find a pair
that sounds good on Mid-America (thanks AA): Blitz Rhino Ramps: only
$49. per pair. - but I waiting an email to see what the ground hight is
(someone told me they have to be rated at least 10" to get a creeper
under, does anyone know if this is true?).... If that falls through, I'll stick
with the ole jack and stands until a 10" + low profile pair (around a
hundred bucks) comes around. Thanks for the input guys.

Found some specs about the Rhino.  If it is the same as you found, they are only 8.5" (which is probably why most of the sites don't list the dimensions!!!)

If you got the money get a kwik lift.  I have seen them used and they seem to be the best option for the money.
