Is it possible for a 1971 LT-1 Coupe to NOT have the cast clamps for the half shafts?

I have a standard 71 coupe, auto, and it appears to have the heavier rear clamps. My '70 L-46 has the "U" shaped bolts that hole the half shafts together.

I am looking at a 1971 LT-1, that looks like it meets all the requirements of an LT-1, except it has the "U" clamps on the half shafts.........

Anything is possible, Mike. It may well have come from St. Louis like that, or the yokes may have been changed somewhere down the line.
The assembly line didn't stop if there was a shortage of specific parts, IF there were other parts on-line that would work. There are many documented cases of cars being ordered with one particular option, the build sheet verifies it, as does the window sticker, but the car doesn't have the thing installed...it happens.

I would check the diff codes for correct dates, and if the ratio was available for the car as equipped, and go from there.

Cool....thanks Joel. Everything else checkes out. The guy has owned it since '85, and hasn't driven it since '97. Its been in garage covered all that time. He has no paperwork with the car, but knows the previous owner. I am going to go take a final look this afternoon!

Very nice addition.
Best of luck with it.
