As the article mentioned look at the rivets that afix the tag to the door jamb. If they look new I'd be suspect that the tag is original.
daveb12 said: ... Another question..... I've been told the date on the plate is the date that the body was mated to the frame. That would mean it should be the latest date code found on the car. Is this true? |
From what I've read the date on the tag is the date the body was assembled (which could be different from when the engine was built, which could be different from when the transmission was assembled, ect.). I'm not aware of a date stamped, riveted, or whatever anywhere on the car (other than perhaps the build sheet) that will tell you when the car acutally went down the assembly line.
There might be some info regarding dates on the NCRS site.

I found this great website from france that lists all the C3 years and options both for the vin and the tag.

You were right about my trim, it was listed as black leather, but without the deluxe option. So it was ordered as black leather with the basic interior. Kind of cool!

My particular problem is an energetic son that removed the trim tag to detail the door jamb and then somehow lost the tag! The car is totally legit but I have no recourse but to go with a repro. I have all the data I need on the tank sticker, but I must have a quality replacement for the original. I could probably "age" the tag, but iti would still need to be a high quality piece. Any thoughts?

Hi
What I heard is that you can buy the trim tags unstamped, even on E-bay.
You must use one of the old type writing machines and type your numbers yourself.
Just a litle while ago, there was a thread on the CORVETTEACTIONCENTER.COM ( I think ), where they gave the sellers info for trim tags, protecto plates, window and tank stickers.
