The sequence no. in the VIN for my 69 is 706139.  What does this tell me?

It tells you that you have Vette number 6139 out of 38.762 produced in model year 1969. You can also check the trim tag on the drivers door jamb to find out the month and date the body was mated to the chassis.

Jim,

Your VIN breaks down as follows:

1= Chevrolet
94=  Corvette
37= Convertible 67= Coupe
9= Model Year 1969
S= St. Louis, MO Plant
7= Nothing (each year uses a different nimber)
06139= Production Sequence Number

You can use the TOOLS button on the C3VR home page to check on many C-3 statistics & info.

Your car was built in late October, you can get the exact  date that you body was assembled & painted from your trim tag on the driver's side door jamb.  Generally, the car was assembled the following day (based on weekends & holidays).  Look for a letter followed by 2 numbers, your should read C##.

Good luck,

Anthony

Thanks Scott.  I ordered the car with the dealer in August 1968, and it was delivered Nov. 8.

That's the car line series code indicating Corvette.  All '69s had the 7.  All '68s had a 4.  It could vary from year to year.

Congratulations on being an orginal owner of a '68.

You are a rare breed.

That would make a great story for our newsletter.

I was thinking like Dave...I think being an original owner is quite unique. It would make a great story for the newsletter. Maybe some interesting stories about trips in the car, maintenance issues over the years, number of paint jobs etc. I think it would be very interesting. Give it a go Jim!

It's a 69, Lemans Blue w/ black interior.  I still have original documents including: 1) letters to me from the dealer confirming receipt of my deposit and confirmation of the order to Chevrolet, 2) The order form completed by the dealer to Chevrolet showing model and options, 3) window sticker, 4) Payment receipt, 5) title and tax receipts and 6) the plastic "Corvette Owner Card" (credit card size).  Of course, I have the manuals also.

Restoration should start in a few months.  I haven't driven it for a few years.  It's been stored at the restortation shop here in East Tennessee for quite a while.  We have received the new hood surround.  You are probably familiar with the notorious "swelling rivet" problem that causes "bumps" between the headlights and hood opening.  Replacing the hood surround is the best solution.  It was repainted once in 1977 at a famous Corvette restortation shop in Houston, but I don't think I got the quality job I should have.  Anyway, that's a brief summary.

Thanks Jim...very interesting summary. It has got to be cool to be the only owner of such a piece of American history. Keep those stories coming.
