Vette(s): 1969 Corvette Stingray Convertible. Just bought it from my uncle who owned it since 1971. Fathom green, green interior. 350/300, T400.

Due to the fact that my wife is pregnant again (not my idea), I might have to sell my '69 for financial reasons. I wanted to know what you guys think it's worth. It's a 350/300 with a TH400. the engine and trans have been rebuilt and detailed, everything is numbers matching (I did add a Crane cam and Pertronix). Frame was stripped to bare metal (with body on) and painted semi gloss black. Suspension completely rebuilt and detailed (trailong arms were powder coated, s/s parking brake hardware). Torque thrusts with new BFG's, along with original styled steel wheels with Eagle ST's. Radiator recored. New p/s hoses, radiator hoses, etc. Rebuilt (and restored) carb. S/S exhaust. It has the original paint (needs new paint and a new top). I have most all the original paperwork, including window sticker and build sheet, as well as receipts dating back to the early 70's. Also, the original chrome is very good, fiberglass is in good shape.

Thanks,

Matt

Bummer, Matt.
I know how it feels...
Market price would be around $43,000 for a fully restored/show condition car. Around $32-$35,000 for a nice, clean, #2 condition car. (Convertibles always bring more $$, as well as options.)
I hope you can find a way to hang on to it.

I was hoping to get $20k out of it, being that it needs paint and a top, that's not too unreasonable, is it?

Sounds about right, I guess. I'd keep the starting price up there, maybe around $25-$27,000, and let them(potential buyers) dicker it down, if they want/can. No need to give it away...

Matt, I certainly hope you can find a way to keep your Vette.  It would be a real shame to part with it after having it in the family so long.

But for another reference check out the latest edition of 'Corvette Magazine'.  It has an updated Shark Market Report in it.

ProTeam Classic Corvette is a sales/broker house in Ohio and if I remember right the breakout of car condition in their catalog is pretty good (the online version isn't very descriptive).  The prices they're asking for their cars seems to be pretty high end to me but it must be what some market will bear or they wouldn't be selling cars.

Vette(s): 1972 conv., sunfire yellow, blk interior, blk vinyl and convertible top. Off frame restoration with American Speed 383 stroker engine producing 500hp plus a 200hp NOS system. MSD ignition. Hooker super competition headers with chambered exhaust.

Matt,

FYI...I have a friend who had basically the same car you have. It was a 1 owner car with 65,000  on it. The local  Lincoln/Mercury dealer heard that he was thinking about selling it. He ended up trading the car for a new 2006 Lincoln town car and $5000 cash. I would definitely start the asking price atleast $25,000.

As for Pro-Team, I have bought a couple of cars from them. They will usually drop 15% off the asking price.

Matt, take it from me, I did just that. Kids, family stuff had me convinced the 72 had to go....big F mistake. I bought it back 10 years later for more money.

You can find a way to keep the Vette.....it's lookin great, just maintain it and don't leave it out in the rain like my buddy did.

Just give the car to me , you will feel much better doing it, or at least I will be happy !

Do what you feel you have to. I have been in that situation more than once but believe me, a few years down the road you will get this sick feeling in your gut that just will not go away.

If you do sell it, price it high. There are people out there with $$ that will as soon hand you 50 grand as 20 grand for a sharp car. They have the money but not the means or know how to build one. At that point  for them its like you buying bubble gum, you can but the same piece for 5 cents or  50 cents acording to where you go and you really think nothing of the price difference. The guy that it matters to is the guy selling the gum.

Here is an edit/add on........   2006 price guide from Vette-N-Vestments gives it at 72,500 high 17,000 low and 23,500 average. gained 41 % value in last 5 years. You might should reconsider selling it.
