Depending on the cruise speed, my '82 gets 25 to 29.
City is in the low 20's.
Twisty mountain driving (like the Tail of the Dragon) in 2nd gear drops it down to 15.

But of course, if you want economy, stick a V6 in there.

If you put that many miles a year and the gas prices stay up (fat chance coming down)...it could probably be justified going to an overdrive... I only get about 10-12 with easy driving.. no telling when I put my foot in it...
but I only put about 1500 miles a year... Of course... I would probably put more miles if the price of gas was down... I knew when i got it what the MPG would be... but i wanted it
and now I got it... and I ain't lettin it go...

Good luck with your decision... don't you just love it...?

What's MPG? Actually, I get about 16 on the highway with 3:36 gears, T400 trans and a 327 with a 485 lift cam.....I'm pretty happy with that......

I don't want to know. I just put the premium nozzle in, close my eyes and pull the trigger
. Once I leave the gas station, its all forgotten until the next time
.

I changed from a 4 speed to a 5 speed last year before PF and with tail of the dragon, PF driving, round trip Biloxi, ms PF, Tn averaged a little over 23 mpg ( the first gear gives a better launch and the fifth make cruis'n at 100mph just a little over idle )

On a "good" day, my '70 LT-1 gets about 10-12 MPG. With a heavy foot, it's somewhere around 8-9, but I get to the next gas station real quick. It's a 350CI/370HP, 3.70 rear, M21 4-speed, Holley 780 Double-Feed carb, aluminum hi-rise intake. Romp it and you get this nice sucking sound.

Vette(s): 1972 conv., sunfire yellow, blk interior, blk vinyl and convertible top. Off frame restoration with American Speed 383 stroker engine producing 500hp plus a 200hp NOS system. MSD ignition. Hooker super competition headers with chambered exhaust.
If I drive like a 61 year old man should, I can get between 7 and 8 miles per gallon. My problem is resisting the "rush" of 512 ft. lbs of torque at 4200 RPM.

11-12 city and 13-14 highway.

But I didn't buy it for economy.. Need a C5 for that.

I echo Glen's reply. But then again, at my age, it is easy to forget gassin' up. All I have to do is go to sleep.
Every day is a new one.

By the way, doesn "MPG" stand for "More Premium Gallons???" It sure does in my ride.
