Topic: My buddy is upset
in Forum: C3 General Discussion
I have not sold my 73 yet and the 72 is having some work done so my friend and I went for a long drive up to lake Texhoma and back Sunday in the 73. I live north of Dallas and it was a perfect 70 degree sunny day. Well my friend got a new C6 at Christmas time that he drives when he is not out of town. He suggested that we take the 73 and I warned him it did not have all the comfort of his new car but he wanted to take it anyway.
Here is where the upset part starts. Every stoplight and about every 5th car or truck we passed on our journey either gave us a approving nod or actually rolled down there window to give us a thumbs up or share nice comments. Even the motorcyles we passed or the ones that passed us gave us approving jesters. This made me feel good, even though just driving on a nice day fells good in any performance oriented car. Man was he upset he spent big bucks for his state of the art car and had never received the kind of approval rating that we were getting in mine on Sunday.
Now don't get me wrong if I could afford a new Corvette I would have one, however it feels nice to see how many folks appreciate the survivors still around. I just wish my teenagers felt the same way about their elders. I guess that will come with time.
Thanks for letting me share and keep on driving them so others can re-live their good times when they see you out there.

Most all (prob about 98%) of C5 and 6 owners out here don't even look twice at my Vette. I gave up on them. Some times I think they don't even know an early Vette when they see one. I see the same cars regularly, but they never have even looked at mine when sitting next to them at a stop lite. The people from Lake Tahoe and Incline Village (Income village we call it) are the worst, they think thier stuff don't stink. I was at my buddies shop and a customer of his comes in that has a C5, when I told him I had a C3 he just looked at me an walked away.
