Vette(s): Used to own a 1979 Corvette now owned by JB79
Anyone else have a problem where their clothes smell like gas and/or exhaust after riding in their Vette?
I don't think I used to have this problem, but currently I do.
There's no smoke blowing out the tail pipes, or anything strange buring under the hood (that I am aware of).
What gives!?!?

Very strange indeed
My first thought is that you stopped for gas and got a little bit of fuel on your hands from the pump. Its difficult to get that smell off your hands.... Just a thought....

Check for a gas leak at the base of the carb. Mine was doing that before I rebuilt it, smelled like gas in the cabin, and so did I when I got it home. You may only have to tighten the bolts on the carb.
I also had that problem last night when my float stuck, but it doesn't sound like you're having that problem.

I get the exhaust smell quite frequently, its better now since I made the last change, but still a tick rich and smells on the cloths. The things us guys with side exhaust have to put up............
Its worth it I guess........

Mine has the same problem. When I park it in the garage after driving it, the furnace/air conditioner sucks the fumes into the house. My wife's not especially hip to that. My mechanic checked the car and could find no reason for the odor. So, it must be "part of the fun"...
Why do I always get blamed for everything I do?

Hi Adam
My 78 has a gas problem too. When I restart it after
being shut off for a while the carb heat soaks-the
gas boils out, floods the engine, and the needle fails
so seal.25 years is a lot to ask of a carburator!
Do the numbers and figure out how many pounds of
gas that thing has run through it in 100000 miles@
16 mpg.About 8 lbs/gal. Buy a new carb!
Steve
Thats about 50000 lbs of gasoline!

Adam, are you running a open breather element? Sometimes the fume from a open element will travel in through the cowl to the interior. How are the emission hoses? i.e carb to emission canister, etc.
