I've been keeping this inside of me for way too long now. My neighbor right down the road from me (about 5 houses) bought a 78 special paint SA about 5 yrs. ago. I remember when he first got it and he stopped it front of my house and tried to light them up (not so good!!!) anyway it was a nice driver. Paint was a little tired but some buffing and it would have worked for him for 2 maybe 3 more yrs.Now he did do that and it looked very nice. At this time I didn't have my Vette yet but he knew my 71 Z/28 very well, as most of the Island. I mean how big can an Island be.Then all of a sudden he's got a new paint job.First let me say, he had now idea what he bought. Later disscusions with him proved this out.Anyway back to the paint. He had it painted....Bright YELLOW!!! top half with a very BLACK bottom half. Cutting the paint up a pair of red and blue pin stripes running around the break. It was a shock to say the least. He drove it about another yr. and some grimlins starting popping up and now it's in his back yard just waiting to be given to his grandson, WHO IS 5!!!. I waiting for him to come buy one day and basickly give it to me.I know, I know whats my point. Simple. It was a silver/gray sp.Now he says he knows and that if he knew back then this wouldn't have happen. Thank God he didn't go to far and it can be brought back. I'm a very patience man and I figure my time will come when I hear a knock at my door, an I hear"have I got a deal for you"Thank guys I feel better

What a shame. I hate to see these cars, or any collectable car neglected. If it's just sitting outside there wont be much left for his grandson.

[/QUOTE] I know. It's fine right now. it don't leak but the god awful sun will kill a cheap paint job in one summer. My mother allways said about Summer in Savannah. it's like stepping into the devils kitchen. She's right. I leave the house a 5:00 am and when I open the door at that time it's like a big wall of 83-85 degree humidor. AT 5:00 AM!!!I'm sticky by the time I get to work. But you. It's all I know and I love it !!!!

I know how it can be, I left the Savannah area in '98, hes not kidding. If you have any yard work to do in the summer, you had better get it done before 7-8am, if not your gonna die

The 79 I picked up was left outside and neglected and everything went to shi* and I mean everything, what a waste inside and out. Very frustrating, I am replaceing the entire interior. My car has been in the NW for awhile but still I can't imagine what the Georgia weather is going to do that car. I actually think the weather is worse down there than it is up here.

Well I had my 64 in the Shop last week (one man shop that only works on C1 C2 and C3 Corvettes nothing else) for an electrical problem ..
There was a 79 sitting there completely gutted onthe inside that he was working on......asked him about the car and all I got was a frown and a stare and then he tells me the owner parked the car outside the last 6 years, never drove it a single foot and now is bitching about the price he has to pay to bring the car back to life...Actually my Mechanic told me the bill is already a couple of grand more then the car is worth and it needs paint
I feel bad because due to health problems my 72 76 & 79 have not even been out of the garage so far in 2007 .. BUT at least they are out of the weather .. This year has been something else, my money is going to Doctors not into car parts.. BUT better times are coming...Reservations made for all 3 days at Carlisle, Reservations made for the Adirondack Cprvette Fest in NY and reservations made for Corvettes in OC Maryland..
and do not be surprised if you see me doing the Fall Skyline drive cruise...
gotta make up for lost driving time...

Fall Skyline Drive? When?
Well Zgator...I feel your pain! Same miserable heat and humidity here in Charleston. I am so glad that I have a garage for my toys. At least they are covered and out of the heat. I am looking forward to October.

I can see someone letting their 'Vette sit for health reasons, or even to "save" it for a future generation, but...to just let it sit outside with no protection make NO sense at all. My '85 sat for about 3 years once, but it was covered with 2 covers, and they were removed every now and then and the car washed/cleaned inside & out. No reason for it sitting other than we had other cars to drive, and Mama didn't want to put any un-needed miles on it. She still doesn't.
My '74, on the other hand, was left outside for a LONG time before I bought it...it was sad the amount of weather damage it had.
"It don't leak" you say?!?!?
I bet it does somewhere!
It's just sad that a Vette is neglected like that...
