Well, all I can say at this point to comparing the two hobbies is:  When I first brought my bass boat home all my wife said was, "OH GOD".  And when I brought the Vette home she said, "CAN WE KEEP HER DADDY".  Maybe I'll give her the car and I can go fishing.

In 1979 if you had a car with 100,000 miles it was near its end, now that ain't nothing.  My first car was 1969 Nova SS 350/375HP.  That thing kept me in trouble.  A uncle sold me the car with every bolt-on part imaginable for drag racing, that was not a good idea for a 16 year old.  He gave me lots of how to books as well and told me, read first, then drive.  I did and learned a lot.

Saying that, I've been scouring the pages and I already have form a good idea on how to proceed.

I think this is going to fun and rewarding

Rick

Yep the ladies (all ages) love these cars so you may be in a little bit different type of trouble, but not to worry no back seatLOL
Yes you have a plan and seem to be doin fine.
FUN? you bet cha, these cars demand attention from crowds and they handle like they are on rails the more you drive em the more you become as one. Just like Nasa Jack said the other day you love em like fine women. I rub my babys front buldges every morning as I hop into the daily driver.
Heh it happens...............LOL

[QUOTE=dskopp]Some lights may be a simple fuse problem.  Headlights may be a vaccuume problem.  Check A/C for low freon.  Sounds like you have gasket problems!!  Congrats on your first vet.  This is my first one also.  I love to work on "Her".  Yes it is a "her" cause she never lisetnes to me!!!!  Got questions?  Just ask away, that is why we are here!!  To help each other!!

alot of times no belt on compressor means the clutch locked up and threw the belt.

when you put a belt on and check it out make sure to be ready to shut it off quick.

dont refill it first...  if you have to rebuild compressor youll waste all that freon.

Ranger3, I have to agree, I have yet to see a bass boat catch a fish.  There are some that spend more time looking like they can fish, than they spend time catching fish.  My boats 10 year old and it does the trick.  If I spent 50 grand on a bass boat I'd have to live in it.

I'm hoping that with the A/C it is the compressor.  Anything much beyond that it would be a dash removal, right.

I must admit this car is not speed demon, though it does run good.  This model didn't have a lot getty-up-and-go with 195hp.  May I need a Stroker.

Is it more advantageous to leave her all original?  Its hard to put a price on these classics.

Anyhow, she going on a rack this weekend.   I'll know more come Monday.    I'll give a report

Man, another one! Hey, Rick, I also have a 79 L48 Corvete light blue (frost blue on the build sheet). What color is your interior? Mine is dark blue. Just wait until you drive people nuts trying to figure out if its white or blue! As far as the clock, almost none of the c3s original clocks work. It was a bad design. If you want to use it, upgrade to digital. As for the other stuff, I will leave that to the many extremely knowlegable people you'll find on this site. Its the greatest!

Don't forget to read through the thread archives under the forums column, there are tons of articles there, so many that it's hard to go through them all, but it's worth the reading. And please never be afraid to speak up, we don't consider any question silly. posting your issues one at a time in the proper forum category will get the most attention. Good luck on your new hobby. These things are a labor of love. In spite of the issues you uncover, it looks like you got a reasonable start for the money, I mean it's a good looking body. Isn't that how most of us start our relationships, and then slowly discover the imperfections Confused.

you need to verify originality on the engine and trans.

if the VIN matches you have 2 choices.

Either pull the original engine and trans and store them.  then replace with something more fun...  or leave it alone.
