Had a small, contained underhood fire on my 74. Didn't really do any damage except for to the vacuum lines and minor to the electrical lines. What i need, please group, is someone with a 74 or there abouts, who can help me by going out to their Vette, seeing where this line of that one goes to as I am fixing it. I looked in my manuals and cant find a good diagram of every line under the hood, so you would be of great help to be me. Thanks in advance.
First one: I have a vacuum choke, which i am assuming goes to the vacuum port from the thermostat to there, but is there any other junctions it goes to? thanks again, dave.

One source I use, when I can't seem to find it any where else, is Doc Rebuild's site - he has various diagrams out there and I see where he has some new wiring diagrams available too.

Dave, I can snap some pices of my underhood area, if ya need. Is yours an L48 or L82?
What "manual(s)" do you have? The assy. manuals are really good for vac. line routing, repair manuals...not so good.
Where was the fire situated under there? I'll get some pics after while, and send them to ya.
Vaccuum choke? My L48 is mechanical, activated by the coiled spring in the manifold. Are you talking aboot the choke pull-off? That is vac. activated...Adams' Apple 2006-12-03 10:09:17

Joel;
Duh (on me)! i have an assembly manual, didn't think of looking there
thanks, now i will search that tonight. I honestly forgot that i had it
I am talking about the choke pull off, i just didn't know the proper term for it.
I am sure there is no need for the pics, if you dont mind just letting me know where the lines run. For example, the Choke pull off.
Right now, it seems that all i have to worry about is the choke, air pump, and wipers. But, I am going to check the assembly manual tonight too.
What happen is that the fuel line leaked at the carb (Previous owner put in a fuel line instead of the steel one, so i left it), When the fuel hit the exhaust manifold, minor fire. Only damage done was the vacuum lines and a small amount of electric lines on top of the motor. The electric lines, i followed the copper and could rewire them, the vacuum lines were lost completely. Fortunately, the hood was open at the time, and it was local. My wife was sure right when she wouldn't let the car out the driveway without that extinguisher!

Joel;
Boy, will those pics help a ton! With those printed out and the proper
manual beside me, i should have the whole thing done quickly and accurately. I cant thank you enough. I should be working on it during the week, I am hoping to take it out for a test drive on Saturday. Thanks again! dave.

Ok, on Saturday, i had put only the choke pull off and vacuum
advance lines on, plugged all the other vacuum lines. When i fired her
up, she seemed to run great. Company came, i had to cut it short, so i
didn't do anything else on her.
Monday, i went out with the assembly manual, your great photos, a box of vacuum hose and put on all the proper hoses in the proper ways. Tried to start it. Wouldn't fire for anything. In frustration, i put in a small shot of starting fluid. After it turned a couple of times, flames shot up in the air about 2 foot! It was a quick shot is all, then she idled rough. With the Vette idling, i look under the hood. My carb was leaking like crazy! i mean, it was pouring out from the gaskets to the point that it was literally boiling on the intake manifold.
Today, i got the replacement Carb. Before i hook up all the vacuum lines, i need to know: Is there anything that if it went bad, could have caused the gaskets on the carb to blow? I cant afford to keep replacing carbs to find out that something else is broke

Dave, it's possible the heat from the fire may have damaged the gaskets/float, etc. in the carb. It may have also warped the top of the carb, creating leaking fuel there.As long as you repaired the fuel line that created the blaze in the first place, that should be ok.
You may want to hold off starting it until you get all of the vac. stuff repaired, just in case there is still a timing problem related to one of the vac. systems. Also, a large enough vac. leak will cause a backfire.
Depending on hot hot it got under there, and the localization of that heat, you may have damaged an intake gasket. It's a long shot, but it has happened.
