Try looking at a 73 454. As the others have said, these cars were build during the days of big bad engines. I have headers, monster carb., edelbrook manifold and an awsome exhaust. It is true, while waiting at a light or sitting idle at the repair garage, everyone turns there heads when the engine is on!!!. But, when you hit the gas at a light, the sound that comes out is incredible. My neighbor has a c4, there is no comparison. Good luck. |thumb|

I've got a friend who owns an 86 vette he's had it about 6 years now,I've rode and driven his C4 it rode hard ,was a bitch to get in and out of,to me it just did'nt feel like a vette. He is always having problems with it,especially the electronic dash. When I bought my 78 last may,he came up to the house to check it out,I handed him the keys,he was back in an hour,I couldn't get him out of the car.He said so this is what a real vette is like, this is what I wanted when I got my 86 what a difference, find one of these for me,I'm gettin rid of my C4. After comparing C3, C4 and even some rather low priced C5 models I have come to the following conclusions:

A. C4's provide many creature comforts, are fairly comfortable (nice seats), pretty fast, handle well, the A/C and heaters work, etc.

B. C5's take it a notch further, have all the creature comforts, lots of space, handle even better than previous models, are fast, lot's of ponies, AC and heaters work, etc.

C. C3's rule. Enough said. Now to find one in my price range. |laugh|

I didn't see anyone say "yeah, go for the C4 instead of the C3"... probably because you're on a C3 fan site! |wink|

Let us know what you get! And post pictures!

C4's are more advanced, more comfortable, and faster than a C3, there is no doubt. But, then again, so is a Honda Accord, would you rather be driving one of them?? I think not.

I looked at C5's, awesome car but too expensive, it's hard to watch the money just fly away year after year. Plus, it's a belly button, everybody's got one.

I've driven a dozen C4's. Sophisticated and quick, but a bore to drive, and a bore to look at.

I bought a C3. Why? Because I love the body, the wild styling, and the aggressive/rough engine. It's the overall character of the car that hooked me. If you want to go faster or you want more luxury there is always something faster and better than the car you own. (where does it end?) If you give that up you can have something that is fast, loaded with character, fun to drive, and gives you a common bond with others just like yourself.

Best of luck on your purchase. Obviously you've given it a lot of thought so I'm sure you'll be happy either way!!

Either way, enjoy

I love the fact that I can o anything to my C-3. No computors, little emissions, and evrything can be removed and replaced. I have worked on C-4's and couldn't even see where the spark plug wires were let alone replace them. My friend spent 2 years trying to find a problem with his C-4 electrical system by the - try replacing this- method because no one could find the problem with all their high priced computor checks.
C-3's aren't perfect but aleast I can fix it.

I have a '79 c3 vette. It has been nothing but problems since I got it!! I have replaced just about everything on it at least once. I replace the transducer on it twice and now the third one is bad. I replaced the power steering control and it is now leaking. I replaced the gull type door handle and now the new one has gone bad. Like I said nothing but trouble. But, I love my c-3!! I think it's the coolest looking vette they every built. I have no plans on getting shed of it. I do have lots of more plans for it though. I just replace the qudra jet carb with a 600 Holly and now I need to find a way to hook up all the linkages. Anybody out there know where I can find correct hook-up for the Holly? |hammer|

I'm with you Redwing. Life's too short to troubleshoot gremlins in computers. Don't get me wrong, I expect a C3 to require TLC. But like you it's TCL I can perform.

For Wrongsideup...

Go to Holley's web site. You should find there the part numbers for hookups you need. If you have problems, e-mail them and they will tell what part numbers are required. Then go to Jeg's and Summit Racing's web sites and see which will give the best prices and order the parts.

Make sure you look up the proper kickdown linkages for automatic transmission and cruise control if you have them.
