Vette(s): 1980 Black exterior, red interior, 4 speed.
Gang,
Just took my newly acquired 1980 4 speed car to my paint buddy for his analysis. I've asked him to "refresh" the paint as best he can, since the paint is so "okay" enough I can't justify painting the car right now. Now here's the weirdness.
On the front fenders, there are outlines of where some L-82 emblems have been. The only problems is, the L-82 wasn't available with a 4-speed in 1980. The 4-speeds all got the L-48 190 horse , instead of the L-82 225 horse motor. If these figures are incorrect, someone please help me out. I just want to be accurate!! ~lol~
Does anybody have ANY IDEAS???
It obiously isn't worth it to convert a 1980 Automatic car to a 4-speed car. My guess is that someone stuck some emblems on the car, not worrying about what engine was or wasn't available with a 4-speed in 1980.
If anybody has any ideas, they would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks as always,
Kevin in Cincinnati

Whqat do yu say that the 4 speed wasn't an option for the L-82? I think it was. Check out this link for your car specs
http://corvetteactioncenter.com/specs/1980.html
Checking out your VIN is where you will be able to tell if the car has a L-82

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.

Kevin,
Get the suffix code off of the passenger side of the engine block, toward the radiator. What are all of the numbers?
The numbers, letters will tell you what the engine is.

Thanks Dennis. According to the VIN decoder that someone had on here a while back, it's an L-48, 4-speed car built in St. Louis. (obviously)
I guess someone who didn't know any better stuck the emblems on (maybe even a dealership) and then someone removed them. The glue left a faint outline on the front fenders above the gills that my paint buddy spotted. Those paint guys have the eye. I would have never noticed it.
Thanks again,
Kevin
