Anyone have any info on what a 1970 Apollo 11 corvette?
Is there such a thing? and where can I find information, stats, #'s?
Supposedly the car is a L46 code, with M22 code which is rare for that year.
Only 40 were made that year?
Please reply asap, we are considering a purchase and want to make sure there is such a vette.
Thanks
Mike

I assume this is the car presently on ebay. The one question to be asked of the seller is: What exactly is it that distinquishes this car as an "Apollo 11" edition??? Has that question been asked, and answered? The listing doesn't say, unless I missed it. I've never heard of such a car. Anyone else?

During the Apollo missions, GM gave the astronauts and back up crews a new Corvette each year. It may be that this is one of those cars. I am not sure if it got a special RPO number. The importance would be in all the original sales document. This cars importance is only varifiable with this documentation.

Here's the funny thing...
I was watching Apollo 13 (again) yesterday, and both Lovell and one astronaut that they showed drove 1970 Vettes. Lovell's was red, the other guy's was gold. So, there may be some truth to the Apollo thing. I don't know how you would verify it though.

thanks for the info...
we sent the seller the same questions.
knew the astronauts were given vettes, but supposedly there were 40 more built- this is supposedly #38 of the 40. There were only 25 M22 tran produced that year, so this car would be rare.
Haven't gotten any reply from seller.
still waiting

I posted a query about this car on the NCRS board. I'd be shocked if we don't get to the bottom of it there.
There were only 25 M22 transmissions that year and they were all in the ZR1 corvette. There were 25 Zr1's made they had:
LT1 engine- which is a 370 hp engine not an L46
M22 Tranny
heavy duty brakes
transistor ignition
aluminum radiator
no:
a/c
radio
power windows
the block id that is show is 3970010 which does not mean anything because it was the same block that was used on all small blocks.
I would be very cautious of this. There is a reason it did not meet reserve the first time and it is going for so low in price.

If there isn't any documentation proving the car belonged to an astronaut, it's worth no more than any other Vette of its vintage. Even documented provenance makes it only worth more to someone who wants it for that.
This question was asked a few years ago and someone did a deep dive then. What was found was that NASA ordered the vehicles for the employees of the space program due to GM giving a great deal for promotional value. They were all owned by NASA and therefore driven by the space guys and their wives. They had first crack of buying the vehicle at the end of the model year. As far as the info goes all were LT1s and there were 37 vetts and 8 Camero's ordered and all went through one dealer in Houston. What we were told is all corvettes were with radio delete and all were 4 speeds. There were 12 of the 37 purchased and the rest were sent back to the original dealer and sold (I had the dealer's name but can't find it). GM gave a hugh discount on this as a promotion and the deal was that the cars would be in pics with the crew. What makes the car any more valuable is the original bill of sale and if the car in question was bought out by the employee and if he was important. I hope this helps and this is as accurate as we were told. This info was through NASA and hopefully correct.I have never one in any meet that I have been at yet

There was an article in Vette magazine awhile back the featured those cars. I don't think I have that issue anymore but check it out in their online Features: The AstroVette
