I am going to paint my '75 this winter and am considering getting a bra or front end mask for it. Since I drive the Vette alot on long trips at interstate speeds, that is where I need the protection. Does anybody have any experience with bras for C3's? Does anyone know of a bra for a C3 that will cover the Indy Pace Car Air Dam? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would also not recommend a bra, I just keep my front clean and waxed often. If you paint fades, the part under the bra will not match and as good as a fit you can get, you still will have some rub on that nose from the bra. The guy that painted my vette told me never to use one, he said it can rub like sand paper. Just my 2 cents.

I put a lot of miles on my '69. A lot of it at highway speeds. I would estimate that less than 20% of the chips ( road damage ) are under where the bra covers. I do have a bra for the car but don't use it for a couple reasons. Paint fade and removing and reinstalling it before and after shows.
Actually the worst paint damage I have is on top of the fenders and behind the wheels. I do have clear plastic "mud flaps" on the fenders and quarters. I also have the clear plastic static cling thingys behind the rear wheels. I like the idea of the clear plastic because I leave them on for shows and haven't had a judge ask me to remove them yet.

I have a Silver 1980 and use a black mask with the 80 vette logo in the middle of the mask. This mask has light openings, so I can use the lights and open the hood, as well, while it's installed. I bought it from Mid-America. When I bought the mask, I specifically asked for one that wouldn't cause paint damage, so they had me contact their paint shop. They said they couldn't ensure that I wouldn't get paint damage, but they turned me on to one of their masks that has two flaps in the top center of the mask just about the logo. These flaps fit down under the leading edge of the hood when the hood it closed. I attached industrial strenght velcro under the area in front of the hood and aft of the lights and when I put the mask on, I fold the two flaps under this area and attach the flaps to the velcro. These flaps get attached first when I put the mask on and remove them last when taking off the mask. When I remove the mask, I put it in a plastic bag, so I won't get tiny dirt/rock specks on the white fiber backing material. Prior to installing it, I always inspect the white backing to ensure that it doesn't have any dirt on it that would scratch the paint. I drive on the highway and go to shows quite a bit and have not had any paint damage under the mask area since I've used the mask. Using the velcro keeps the mask tight, so there isn't any fluttering while I'm driving. It's saved me allot of road chips. I don't use it if I'm driving around town and I get great reviews from judges at car shows. To each their own...and good luck! |saluteflag| |wavey| |thumb|

Theres a company called speedlingerie that makes colormatched bras for Vettes.Unfortunately not for C3's yet.If enough interested C3 owners requested them, they might speed up their supposed development of them sooner. I think its www.speedlingerie.com |thumb|

Hey friends,
Thanks for the input. My intention is to do like Flyboy and only use the bra for long trips on the highway. It would only be on for that time and then taken off once I reach my destination. And I would never run it in the rain! I have heard horror stories about moisture trapped under those things and what it can do to paint.
I have seen the Speed Lingerie for the C5's and they fit well and look good but they are not very thick. I am not sure they would deflect a rock without paint damage as well as the thicker vinyl ones that I have seen for C3's.
Anyway, I appreciate the advice.
