Dude I feel your pain. Look at my webpage and see the stuff I had to do to make it legal. After a year and about $7000 its legal. 2 weeks later the starter dies. week later I can drive after parts come in. Then a week later water pump dies. A week later Im putting it back together and notice that the fan clutch is toast. Im waiting on those parts now. I definatly feel ya

Don't sweat the small stuff,vacuum problems are planned into your Vette when it was built .Like the other guys said,step back, pop a cold one,relax,Thats what I do,I have a office chair on wheels and a fridge in the garage just for these occasions.don't let it get you downWhen your out cruisin down the road and everybody is turning their heads and waving and giving you the wave,you'll forget about all the small stuff

Larry;

I posted one very near to yours a few weeks back.  I was looking for a witch doctor, a voodoo princess or anyone/thing that could help.

These guys will definitely get you through this, and will get you there the best/cheapest way possible.  Joel, Ken, Ron and the guys have been there for me, through the dumb and smart questions.

Maybe you and I both need to follow the advice of having a cold one and imagining the looks/waves/thumbs up we get when we are driving around.

I let a 64 1/2 convertible Mustang get away from me several years back because I thought it would be too much work to bring it back.  It was one of the bigger mistakes I have made.

Take care and have that cool one!

Dennis

It was good for me to read this thread this morning.  I have in addition to my '71 Coupe a 66 Mustang.  It crapped out about halfway down the driveway this morning. Haven't driven her for a while so I thought it would be a good day for it.  As I went to get another car out of the garage I thought "I could make a little space here if that went away".  Reading here made me change my mind.   She was a car in a box when I got her and have rebuilt from the ground up.  I will just bring it in and open the hood and fix it to go another day.

Thanks!

Tim-

How true is all of the above. Since my motor diumped last October I have spent $7g`s rebiuilding it and other suspension parts.to this day i haven`t been able to drive her more than a few miles due to fine tuning.( the motor has been in since January) It`s been one thing after another. But in the long run I will be glad i didn`t give in to the temptation of getting rid of her.And believe me, it`s real nice getting into my 2003 C5 with out worrying if i am going to make a round trip.

Hang in there ,fix it one by one,

And we are all here for you when you need to let it out.

We`ve all Been there.

Good luck, BOb

Hey 1BadLT1;

Check out my thread "Engine Missing Under Load" in C3 Engines.  It took time and a great deal of frustration however, with the help of Joel & Ron and a good friend of mine 71 Shark (got it right this time), we focused in on the problem and I'll be able to make the cruise this weekend to see Cars at the Drive-In

And to think I was ready to put the cover on the car and start working on the wife's 73 MG.

As Churchill once said, never give up, never give up, never never ever give up!

Larry sorry I didn't see this thread earlier.  I know you don't wanna sell your Vette, and yes it gets frustrating as hell haveing these little problems but think about me. I had my Pacer three months before the entire transmission went tits-up. It sat in the garage for almost an entire year and I couldn't drive her, now thats frustrating. I can not give any better advise then what everyone else has already said except if your really that troubled maybe you need step back cool off for awhile. I've seen you and your Vette and if you get rid of it you will kick yourself in the ass, you will never really get the love for that Corvette outta your system and you'll always want her back.

Hi Larry. Like everyone else who owns a classic, things do go wrong. First of all I agree 200 degrees is only 5 degrees warmer than what the stat opens at. Personally if it doesn't climb from there I wouldn't worry. As far as fiber optics, it sounds like when they removed the console something came unhooked. Pretty simple stuff. I don't know any Vette owner who hasn't experienced vacuum problems. A simple tool called a mighty vac and some time that's pretty simple also. On mine I had to replace the seal in th actuator to get my car from winking. Cost around $2.00. You own a beauty. Just think if you got another one it sure could be worse. Terry

Larry, I can without a doubt say that I know exactly how you feel. I'm not a mechanic, and I've spent a lot (really a lot) of money on my 74. The main reason I spent so much was really due to me picking the wrong shop ! That alone cost me a few bucks unnecessarly. I can't begin to tell you how many times I wish I didn't get my car. There were so many times that I was so frustrated, that I had wished it caught fire  and I wanted to buy a newer one with a factory warrenty. But the bottom line is what the rest of the guys are telling you, which is what they told me, "pick a better mechanic, the car is over 30 years old, repair the most important mechanical items (appearence comes last) and enjoy driving it" That advise is what kept me going. I now have a real nice Vette that I enjoy the heck out of driving it.
