Glenn, I am building a new garage for my baby too. Actually, my Brother and a couple friend are going to build it. As soon as I get the ground leveled and some holes dug, which I hope to do this week. My Vette will have to share it's space as well with my other toys.

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.
Hey Rick,

Since you are building a new garage, you ought to think about putting plastic water lines in the concrete. It looks like you live in a cold climate, by the pic of your Corvette, and it sure would be nice to work in a heated garage, that really doesn't take much gas. The friends of mine that did the water heater thing, swear by it. There are 3 brothers, and all three did it. I wish that I would have thought of it when I built my second garage about 10 years ago. |smile|

I'm trying to get around to fixing up my barn/garage. I need something to work in. I'm hoping to get it done by the end of summer. Just in time for me to go back to school and be gone for another 8 months!! |laugh| I'd use it over winter break though. It'll be nice to have something with a solid floor to lift it up and roll the creeper under.

just make sure you make it big enough. It can never bo too large. I have a 24x30 and I bought a torpedo heater for it. Fire that baby up and in 10 minutes I'm working in a t-shirt in the dead of winter. They are cheap too.

I already have plans for the heat. I am buying a trailer furnace. I have a 15 gallon barrel that will feed it oil or kero. I am sure that will handle all the heat that I need. I have a lot of work to do on the Vette next winter.

My garage is 24 wide and 40 deep. I REALLY wanted a 36 w x 28 d but because of zoning I was not allowed to do it ( hate my township ! ). My builder is GREAT. His son did the roof and siding on my house two years ago. They showed up on a Monday and dug the footers, Tuesday they poured the footers, Wednesday they did the block work, Friday the poured the slab. This past Tuesday he showed up alone with nothing but a hammer and a dozen 2x4s. The rest of the wood showed up at 9:00 am. By 5 pm he had all four walls up and 2/3 of the sheething done and had hand cut all the trusses. Wednesday he came with his son and a helper. By 1 pm all the trusses were put together and put up. By quiting time the roof was on and was tar papered. Today his son is supposed to do the shingles. We have been getting killed with thunder storms the past two days so that may not get done. I expect to have my Red Money Pit in it's new home no later than Tuesday. I will do the electric ( started that last night...100 amp service ) and be done with that hopefully within the week. Gotta get that done in every spare minute cause I will just HATE to have to open the door by hand !
Anyhow, bottom line...24x40, sided, shingled, 18 ft door, 3 ft man door, gable fan, 2 windows, 4 inches of stone, 6 inches of 4000 concrete and concrete sealer........under $18,000.00 I'm a happy man. |smile|

Wow. That sounds like a great garage. One day!! Hopefully I'll get something like that in the future. For now though, I guess I'll just have to turn my 1840's barn with a hard clay ground and tarps into my C3's new home. It has a good roof on it though. Metal and so far I've seen no leaks. I'll have some filling of spaces between boards on the walls and painting, but it should be a nice place to do some work out of the weather by the time I'm done.

Sounds like you are almost ready to move in. I have been trying all week to get someone with a backhoe in to level the ground. Everyone is too busy. My garage will be 26 X 32, 3- 2'X 3' windows a 3' walk door, and a 16 X 8' garage door. I am building a pole building out of 4x4's and 6x6s, with 1 inch sheeting on the sides and roof. Vinyl siding and shingle roof. My materials will cost around $4,000.00 not including the floor. I may put a used brick floor in it with stone dust base. I have seen one and it is impressive and cost about 1/3 of concrete. I am hoping to get construction started next week if I can get someone to do the digging.

That sounds like a great garage, especially for the price. you are bilding it yourself? GOD bless ! I looked at pole buildings before I made up my mind. I was looking at around $17,000.00 to have them build it. That included leveling the ground and putting down stones. Luckily I did not pursue it cause I later found out my township would not approve a pole structure of any sort. Make sure you get a building permit before you start and check on local zoning requirements, they can really bite you in da butt.

I already have the Building Permit. The Township Supervisor issued it. We B.S. for an hour about why a 50yr old needs a vette. I think he is just jeoleous. No zoning problems and I have the supervisors blessing. I didnt mention that I am paying my brother and 2 of his construction buddies $1000.00 plus beer at the end of each day. They said no money but have beer at the end of the day. It will probably cost me a grand in beer know them as I do.
