New guy here with my first Corvette (74 454). Been going into all the nooks and crannies and decided to clean out the battery box. Found two small diameter hoses potted up thru the bottom of the box and are just laying there (not connected to anything ~12". Any idea what they are for?

Didn't some of those old batteries need a drain tube? |headscratch|

I believe that they are vent hoses for the old style batteries that required maintenance.

thats correct. Those tubes would actually connect to the top of the battery cell caps. They were to vent gasses or if the battery boiled over it would expell them to the outside. Battery gas emissions are and can be very toxic.
