Hey all. I'm wondering if I did the right thing |confusing| My neighbors husband died about 4 years ago leaving behind a 1969 Stingray in the backyard that's been sitting since about 86-87... I paid her $900 for it. It is complete minus a broken rear window. Everything on the car is stock i think. Not sure if the 427 is original. It has a/c p/s tilt/tele. It does need a complete go around though!

Sounds like a very sweet deal. If the frame is good and the windshield frame is good then even better. Original type headlights and no heavy customization and she may swear out a police report for stealing the car from her. The engine alone would sell for more than you paid assuming it isn't locked up or frozen and busted. Good luck with it.

HA! I wish it was running, like I said its been parked for over 10 years but thats not to say it wont run. We breathed life back into a 66 chevy pickup with a 327 after it had been sitting for about the same amount of time. Bit of kerosene in each cylinder then letting it soak for a long while does the trick most of the time. It's been sitting in their backyard on 4 flats for as long as I remember. All of the fiberglass is good, no stress cracks. The frame looks like it has surface rust and maybe a bit more but it doesnt have anymore than that. All of the bumper chrome is in great condition as most of the other trim pieces. Can any of you guys give me anymore advice? I'm looking to do a frame-off.

Thats a great deal. Sounds like me. I got 2 1970's for $1000.00 each. Both frames are mint. One is really a parts car but with many, many excellent parts. I'm restoring one now. Good luck!

If you don't want to use kerosene, try using Marvel Mystery Oil. That is what I use on an engine that has been sitting. Either way, be sure to squirt one or the other into the cylinders before turning it over.

Sounds like a heck of a deal!

Once you get it running, in the immortal words of a fellow 'volunteer traffic cop' in front of the NCM on the Sunday of the 50th Celebration in Bowling Green, "Drive it like you stole it!", 'cause that's exactly what you did!

Good luck and have fun with your project. |thumb|

If the car is anything like you described you indeed stole it. 427 driver quality cars go for $15-20K. You could probably get more than your purchase price for the engine provided it is in reasonable shape. It is worth 5-6K in parts alone.

Congratulations!!!

Sounds like a good deal to me. If you decide to part it out instead of restoring it, list the parts on the C3 forum. I am sure there are some parts I wouldn't mind buying.
If you do fix it up, it will be a great ride and a ton of fun.
Good luck !

I'd like to know where you pick up that driver quality 427 for under $20k. I've yet to see one worth owning.

Let see, $20,000 for a first rate frame off, plus the $900 you have into it; assuming the frame is solid and the numbers match, its now a $25,000 plus car...........

I'd say the deal is borderline. |wink|

Sounds like the '63 T-bird I picked up for $900 15 years ago.
