Vette(s): '68 Corvette with Engine Factory 383 Stroker
I hope to make some friends in this organization if anybody will accept a dummy.
Here's my somewhat embarrassing story.
I bought a really nice '68 about 4 years ago for $20K.  Body and paint is perfect.  Interior good enough.  The 327/350 hp began to burn a little oil and I wasn't happy with the performance.
So I bought a 383 stroker crate engine from Engine Factory.  Big mistake.  The hood won't close on the air gap manifold.  Engine Factory knew this was going into a 'Vette.  They were no help.  A thin air cleaner suffocated the engine.  So I tried to sell it and it just sat.  The longer it sat, the bigger fool I felt.  Imagine, I couldn't get $20k back for a car with both engines (one matching) with a Be Cool radiator, Thorley ceramic headers, serpantine belt system. etc..
So I have just decided to pick up the project.  Now I am going to buy an L88 hood from Ecklers.  I want to figure out how to install the cowl induction system.  So much I don't know at this point.  This car is extremely fast and beautiful to look at.  Money is not a problem.  I'm just hoping C2VR will be a good resource for me.  Thanks for listening.
Mark

Mark -

Welcome to C3VR ... there are some great members with some great knowledge on this site. Hopefully, someone will read and post a suggestion or two. My suggestion, if the 383 stroker does not fit , try to sell it and rebuild the 327 ? I just had a 327 rebuilt and it screems.

Best of luck.

Mark welcome to the site. So have you driven that car with the stroker in it?

I so enjoy a vette with all that muscle under the hood....oh what a feelin!

Funny, I bought my Red car with the stroker from a good bud of mine that was dieing of cancer, he was one of those guys that nothin bothered him. When I got the car home I noticed the hood was not closed and figured he had an issue with the release cable adjustment. Wrong the hood will not close because of the height of the carb / manifold. I notice the rub mark on the underside of the hood. When I broke his chomps about it he said "you plannin on drivin in reverse real fast?....Don't worry about it! I want to put an Ecklers after market hood on it but right now it does not bother me. If you like the power keep the stroker they rock!
This is the place for the low down, enjoy it.

A California guy welcome.  Tell you what I'm going to do I will get hold of a friend of mine that has lots of parts and ask him if he can help out with a hood.  He may even make you a good deal on installation.  He is in San Diego so a drive down is not out of the question.  He is also a member of C3VR.  His email by the way is vettsteve@aol.com.

Lots of help.  It is good to see another C3VR California car.

Vette(s): 1972 conv., sunfire yellow, blk interior, blk vinyl and convertible top. Off frame restoration with American Speed 383 stroker engine producing 500hp plus a 200hp NOS system. MSD ignition. Hooker super competition headers with chambered exhaust.
Mark I have an American Speed, 500hp stroker and I have no clearance problem with a LT-1 hood, even using a standard height air cleaner.   I don't know if the LT-1 hood would fit a 68 or not but I'm sure some of the guys here can tell you. In any case, forget the 350 and keep the stroker in the car.

Mark I talked with Steve at vettsteve@aol.com he said he thinks he has what you would need.  Send him a personal email list the parts or ask for his phone number.

It sounds like a good dilemma to have.  To answer the easiest question first, the LT1 hood is just a big block hood without the emblems.  It is not as tall as the L88 hood, but higher than the small block hood.  If it were my car, I would put a regular Performer intake on.  You will lose a very few HP, and it will fit under the hood.  Unless you also want the look of the L88 hood.  You won't notice any significant difference with cold air induction.  It is probably measurable on the dyno, but not emough to feel.

You can't be wrong no matter which direction you go.

I would change the intake, too...much easier to deal with. The L88 cold air set-up has never shown any improvements on a dyno, since it kinda depends on air moving over the car/hood to actually do any good.
It does do a fine job of keeping the HOT engine air from getting into the intake tract, which is really what it does anyway. I do like the L88 look, tho....
