Not to highjack the thread but wanted to add a suggestion on removing  the gas tank. Try to run it down as far as possible, then since you are going to throw the tank away, get a five gallon bucket and place it under the tank, then just punch a small hole in it with a screwdriver or awl. That will get it drained down for sure. Mine had a pin hole leak in it and I found it with a screwdriver and got drowned in gas.

Looks like you are making some progress on the 'Vette, so that's cool. I've got pics of my '74 in worse shape than that, so I can definitely feel your pain!

What part of Japan are you in?  I spent 2 tours, one in  Atsugi as an SH-3 crewman and one in Yokosuka while I was in the Navy.  I sure wish I had a Vette instead of that little rice-burner I had.
