I am considering a 69 vert with no power steering, no power brakes, and no AC, advertised at 450HP. How do these cars handle with no PS and no PB? My memory on older cars was steering hard at slow speeds/parking lots but how is it at cruise, are you white knuckled to keep her on the road at higher speeds? Are manual brakes sufficient?

I have no problem steering or braking. 1969 L71. Then again I don't park in parking lots where I have to parallel park either. But seriously I have no problem steering at any speed, or braking.

Same here, and the good part is my wife won't drive it.

I've only driven my for short distances but it doesn't seem to be that big of a deal. The steering kinda stinks in tight places but you get used to it.

Ditto all of the above on the steering. Thankfully "The Toy" is a small block so it isn't too bad at slow speeds or in tight places. I like the road feel when at speed and have no control worries at all. But if there was a big block under the hood I think I'd go with power steering.
There have been a couple of times when I've wished for power brakes, but my master cylinder looks like it came out of a Chevy II so I've purchased a more heavy duty one, just don't have it installed yet. I'm hoping that will give me some more stopping power.

Thanks for the replys guys. In working out the hardest part of the negotiation (my wife) I have missed out on the car .... sold .....

I figured that asking for forgiveness was easier than asking permission so didn't tell the bride about the purchase until I had my plane ticket in hand...!!! The rest of that tale is best shared over a couple of cold ones...!!!

btw - she DID decide to keep me AND let me live...!!!

It's all in the technique! When I was married, nothing gave me more pleasure than coming home and announcing "Honey!, Look what I just got!!!!!!!!"
It always made for lively conversation!

Sorry to read about your loss.
But if it's a 69 your looking for there seem to be plenty more out there. I was surprised to see that it's the second most popular car owned by C3 members. I was lucky enough to find mine with full power, brakes, steering, windows and a/c, makes it alot more pleasant to drive to the cruise ins. Still has plenty of power with a fresh rebuild on the big block. As for the Mrs, she helped me find it and wanted me to have it but she doesn't drive it due to the four speed, loves driving in it though! Good luck in your search.
