I discovered a little tip tonight for cleaning up that black gasket gunk off of painted parts.  I was trying to get a new painted oil pan in, and I ended up getting the gunk all over it.  When I tried to remove it with a damp towel, I noticed that it was oil based and would not come off.  Remembering a tip that my wife told me about removing oil based paint from your hands with olive oil and kosher salt, I grabbed a bottle of sunflower oil that I never use from the kitchen.  I put some on a paper towel, and the gasket maker came right off and did not harm the paint job at all.  It also helped that I did not let the gasket maker sit long enough to set up.

Just thought I would share this little tip since I was surprised that it actually worked.
