Vette(s): 76 Orange Flame, L48, 4 Speed, Aluminum Wheels
Hey,
I just bought a 76 Orange Flame 4 speed with 42K ! All original/Un-molested !
It has had stainless steel Calipers/ and new GY tires installed. The person I bought it from had it since '82. I would guess I am the third owner.
It needs front and rear bumper covers, the front is cracked way beyond any hope and the rear has one crack. So Ok, I'm going to replace them both, no problem. Heres the qestions and delema:
1. Should I use orginal urethane or fiberglass?
2. If I use fiberglass, should I have the seams filled?
3. This "Orange Flame" is really orange, wouldn't a nice Red or Silver be Better?
Hey, just some questions I've ask myself and for you purists, you can be brutal. I would just like some feedback and suggestions from those with similar experiences.
Thanks,
Dave

Welcome to C3VR crc76orange,
I have seen numerous sharks with the fiberglass bumbers and if installed properly look great. Fiberglass is a lot more ridgid and more difficult to install according to the folks who have them, you might have to do some slight modifications to make them fit right. fiberglass is the way to go if you are limited on funds but you have to be careful not to bump them too hard as they are not as forgiving as urathane bumpers.
As far as the paint, I like the flame orange myself and according to the little black book there were only 4,073 vettes with this paint out of 46,558 vettes produced in 76. I would keep the orange take it to a good paint shop to take out the chips and zaino the heck out of it.
let us know what you decide and good luck.
Joe V.

I think there is a Used to be Orange Vette Club out there also. Personally, If they are shinny, I think the look pretty dam sharp. Either way way you finished it up will look good unless your real picky. If just a fun , nice looking driver it will look fine. The one I'm driving now is one of those 15 feet away units...Up close you can see nicks etc. It it were a show car, I'd be concerned, but its not. My 84 was show condition and I did baby it. Took the fun out of it. Having said that, I'm looking one that was a show car in Vegas...Awesome unit....we are working on price...that one I'd keep in the box trailer and only take it out to fondle it with polish. Fix it and drive the sucker, thats what they are made for.....C-ya on the roads Swampy
