I am glad I don't have to worry about such things with my 73. So many things were changed/missing whenI bought it I just do what ever it takes to keep it on the road. When something needs to be fixed and I can make it better, that's what I do.

I don't have the original motor, wish I did. But I would still drive it. I drive mine almost everyday.
Well I am a newbie but I am going to drive mine now and that is why I'll keep it pretty much stock for now and not plan on a new paint job for some time. The paint looks good and I won't freak out if it gets any new scratches or chips. As far as drive train keep it reliable so you can drive it lots and enjoy it.

Vette(s): 1978 L48, p/s, p/w/ factory ac car factory manual trans has a 350 crate engine w/260hp, but also have original which may be rebuilt- we also have a 76 w/ a 454, and 74 350 in various stages of being rebuilt, plus an 86 and an 02....

I have been watching the C3s appreciate for some years now.
Some are appreciating as much as 18 to 20 % in a 3 year period. I would say an original Corvette is one of the best long term investments a man can make.
I would love to have my car appreciate but it has not happened in the 16 years I've owned it. I paid $14.5 and I'd quess it would bring $14.5 in the real world today, not the high magazine averages. I drive it 1,000 miles a year. (43,000 now) I've spent $4,800 in insurance ($300/yr) for 16 years of ownership....don't you count that as an investment cost? gas? license?
Unless you have a '67 427 or similar rarity there's no way the standard driver corvette is going to out perform the markets. A blind squirrel could make 18% last year....11% the year before.
In one of the current car mags. They highlight a Vega with 16 miles or so on it. It went thru an auction and fetched a fair amount of dollars. When you factored in todays value of a dollar when that car was new....that guy lost $7,000.
You buy a Corvette to drive and have fun. If you need to call it an investment to slide it by someone that's okay too. My wife reads financials and knows better

POINT WELL TAKEN, BUT HOW MANY VEHICLES DO YOU KNOW OF THAT WILL BRING YOU WHAT YOU PAID FOR IT 16 YEARS LATER. aND MY GUESS WOULD BE THAT SEVERAL YEARS AGO YOU MAY NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET THAT MUCH FOR IT. dRIVERS MAY NOT BE AN INVESTMENT , I CONSIDER IT A SAVINGS ACOUNT. THAT MAY GIVE YOU SOME RETURN OVER TIME, BUT A HELL OF ALOT MORE ENJOYMENT THAT THE CASH SITTING IN THE BANK. mOST CAN GET BACK WHAT THEY PAID IF NEEDED.

RON , I AGREE TO DRIVE THE HELL OUT OF IT. I1M NOT SURE I`D WANT TO BE BURIED IN IT.i THINK I WOULD WANT THE CAR TO BE ENJOYED LONG AFTER I`M GONE EVEN IF IT ONLY CAN BE ADMIRED VISUALLY, BECAUSE THERE IS NO FUEL. Hopefully my grandson will want it, otherwise i`ll advise it to be sold to some collector or enthusiate. By then there won`t be to many of us left you were fortunate enough to have seen them in there heyday. enjoy he ride. not to rub it in but it`s almost 80 here!

Damm straight!
The new car I purchased in '90 just before I purchased my Vette was close to the same money, was traded in 7 years later for $2,500 and I'm sure is now in a junk yard.
