Joel is going to have to set up a school for the people (who don't do the work themselves) to learn Do It Yourself of Corvettes 101.
So where do I sign up for this school
I put $3500 of work into the Pacer last spring, and I'm looking at 2 grand this spring for a total rebuild of the brakes (new booster, MC, calipers, lines, bearings packed) and I'm suppling most the parts
darn I need to learn to do this stuff myself.

...............I'm sure you already heard all this YUK
YUK stuff already.
Move closer to the Dallas/Ft Worth area.........There's a wiz-bang guy

I feel you pain Adam. Yours too Jeremy. I took mine in to get the engine and trans rebuilt, and added a few other things like brakes and exhaust while they were at it and paid about three times what I was quoted. It made me sick at the time, but I still love the vette.

Vette(s): 1971 383 Stroker- mille miglia red...5 speed
Before we went to HS, I bought a set of SS brake lines and one left rear caliper line from Bair's. Took it to Bubba (yup, that's his real name) up the road. He changed all four lines and caliper line plus changed my oil and filter, which I supplied, and greased it for $70. That was one time I couldn't complain. I would have paid twice that and not blinked! And, Bubba done a real gud job too.
BUBBA DID REAL GOOOOOOOD!corvette440hp
I've been to "Bubba" & I've been to the local Corvette "Spa" ($$$$$$$$$$).
Last year I found a local service station where I always see 60's & 70's hotrods being worked on. The two guys there had GM muscle cars in thier younger days and really know thier stuff.
No one brings thier Corvette to the wrong place on purpose. It's nice to find a good mechanic who is fair and can be trusted.

Vette(s): Silver 1974 Convertible - L82 4 speed
Low miles (was only 8,900 when I bought it in March 2006) - Now 54K miles. Original owner bought it as an investment for son's college expenses.

Adam, those of us who are not mechanically inclined feel your pain. Shortly after I got my Vette, I found a shop nearby my house to use. As I told Tux during the trip to Hot Springs, they're not cheap, but they make up for it by being slow

Twice that first year, they ended up keeping my car at least a weekend longer than they had said they would need it. Since then, I've learned not to take it there unless I've got plenty of time.
They are expensive, but I trust they are taking good care of my car, and do quality work. And, they always give me an estimate, and if something runs over, or it looks like it might, they call me to give me a choice. They also have no problem with me bringing my own parts in to have installed.
$800 is a small price to pay for most Corvette repairs, but I do think I need to agree with the others. If they didn't give you an reasonable estimate, then I'd say you've got a real complaint. Good luck
I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!
All you really have to do is get it to the gathering and have it break there, ask Spielman

Joel does first rate work at third rate prices. You need to kick the price he gives you up a notch or two IMHO.
Thanks for all you have/will do Joel!
