I finally ot my Vette registered in PA, and wasn't that fun those buggers tax you on everything(but that's another story).
I recently took my Vette to a local garage for inspection and yes i did expect it to fail as it had been in Georgia where no inspection is required
it failed on faulty shocks, lower ball joints, brake hoses balloning and front left caliper leaking, th last 2 items annoyed me as the car had new calipers fitted in September of last year by the previous owners garage, they are obviously a bunch of morons and fitted inferior parts.
Of course as my baby is new to me only the best will do (budget permitting !) so off to Ecklers to purchase some lovely Stainless Steel Braided brake pipes, they fit pefrectly, also they give you better braking , which is not a bad thing.
Having installed all the new parts over the Independance weekend on monday I took the car back for re-inspection, on the way down Stassburg Road, PA near where i live i passed a late 80's Vette(i think) and we waved at eachother, a good omen ?, not so when they re-inspected it the front right caliper was now leaking, this i put down to those lovely new brake pipes, they must be putting real preassure on those cheap calipers, so off to the store for a new front caliper and all is well, i must say that i prefer having 2 new front calipers as opposed to one, now i know my brakes are good.
So now i have my baby on the road and apart from a few niggly things to do i am loving it.

I love braided lines, the only problem is the authorities in Australia don't. Well at least lines that aren't manufactured here to aussie standards. They will only allow OEM when it comes to safety. Of course this excludes seat belts! The original lap and shoulder belts in my 71 had to be replaced by an Australian passed lap/sash system. Easily bolted to the original mounts but does not pass through the seat back as the originals do. So I get a nice red mark on my neck while driving.
Bloody bureaucrats.......

I also live in PA. Don't know how much you are going to drive, but, I went with antique tags as there is no inspection required. If you register it antique, it is a one time fee, then you never have to worry about it again.

Vette(s): 1976 Brown with Buckskin Interior. I bought her on 9/15/03 and just received it on OCT 1st 2003!! It needs interior work, and some things under the hood, but I am so excited! Just waiting for Summer of 2004 to totally show it off.
I did that for Maryland excet here we call it HISTORIC! Now my car was a 1976 so it didn't need inspection but I also do not need emmissions either!! Go for Historic or Antique whatever it is - you'll be better off!! Good Luck!

Vette(s): 1977 L-82 originally white/buckskin interior.
Currently undergoing a frame-off resto. and modifications.YEEHAW!!!
Dean is correct about the antique plates being a one time fee, and no inspection requirements. But you do come into those restrictions about how many miles you can drive it, what months you can, and what kind of weather even.

I also got the historic plates here in Ohio but then went one step further. I filled out another form that allowed me to register original 1969 Ohio plates to the car. I found a nice set on the net for about $15, sent the state a picture along with the form and put them on the car. The rear plate even had the epa sticker. I still have to keep the historical plates in the car. I really like the look and I haven't been questioned yet as to restrictions, weather or parade use. I'm really not sure if all states allow this but might be something to check into.

Guys, interesting to read all your responses i drive my Vette a lot it is not just a weekend car, and the Antique and Classic plates restrict too much, i am told by my garage that next year i will not need emissions, however i like having inspections as they can sometimes see things going wrong that i may not notice, and if it keeps my car and me safe then i am all for it.
I am sure it may have taken me a while to notice the lower ball joint problem.
