Ken, I'm not sure I will . Our area's finest are cracking down on where and when you can drive cars with historical plates. I'm sure you are more familiar with the restrictions than I. I drive my car alot during the summer and don't want to worry every time I pass a cop. don't know what a ticket would cost but I'm sure the $45 renewal fee is less.

JagVette said: Guys, interesting to read all your responses i drive my Vette a lot it is not just a weekend car, and the Antique and Classic plates restrict too much, i am told by my garage that next year i will not need emissions, however i like having inspections as they can sometimes see things going wrong that i may not notice, and if it keeps my car and me safe then i am all for it. I am sure it may have taken me a while to notice the lower ball joint problem. Gary ![]() |
Well, if you put less than 5000 miles on your baby since the last inspection you will get an emissions "exemption" for the following year. The only restrictions that could be a problem with the classic or antique tags would be that you can not use it for a "daily driver."

Hank, sorry about your local boys in blue. I even stopped and asked in Cuyahoga Falls, and talked to Akron as well. They both said they have better things to do than worry about you driving it to work once in a while. Habitual would maybe be another thing. Unless you are really using it for a daily driver they simply don't care in this area. One friend of mine has a 78 Malibu with historic plates and drives it to his part time job 3 days a week. He often drives it to his regular job. He has never even been asked.
Out side the description of the law, yes. Big deal, no. You could move here. I guess it's all in the local boys and the way they do things. Maybe they have nothing else to worry about where you are, but that actually would be a good thing.

Ken, I like it here in Mentor. I may not drive my car to work everyday, but during the summer I will drive it all the time. waited too long to own one to see it sit in the garage. the locals and counties can be "aggressive" in upholding the law at times.

Mentor is a nice area. I have been through a few times. Cuyahoga Falls has been known as "Ticket City". A very nice place to live, and they will leave my plates alone, but don't speed here.
We have a similar thing here in Australia called VCC plates (Veteran Car Club). It allows you to drive your car on any club sanctioned run and up to 100km per week for "Road Testing".
All you have to do is keep a log book. "Road Testing" is quite a broad statement and I would have a problem doing 100km per week in my vette.
Our normal tags cost us on average $600AU per year with inspections on cars over 5yrs old mandatory. VCC plate allow us to pay $90AU but we still have to have an inspection done usually by club members sanctioned by the govt.
Australia is one of the highest taxed countries in the world and it sucks, but it is really only because we have such a large land mass equivalent to CONUS and only 18mil people. So I guess I have to pay for the priviledge of owning my vette.
