Vette(s): 1975 convertible,with the hard top and power streering.it a 350 L48 with auto trans. the color is light blue.
To day at work I was looking though Classic Car Trader. There was a couple ads for the 78 Pace car,however they were silver and black with no decals. Are these real pace cars or just cars with the same colors?did these car have their own serial numbers?

Vette(s): 1978 Silver Anniversary L82 4spd (M21) Red Leather. Pace Car is in the hands of a new caretaker.
8th digit of the vin was a"9" for Pace car. All other '78's were a "4". Decals came with car and where dealer installed if buyer wanted them on.
This is according to the "Black Book"

The '78 Pacers did NOT have the decals installed from the from the factory. They were in a box behind the seats when delivered to the dealer, and it was up to the customer to install them(or have the dealer install them).
They did have a specific VIN sequence, if my memory serves...

And if they are real pace cars, we still stock the decals.

Everyones right. The 78 Corvette Pace Car was the first Corvette to have it own specific VIN.  They were numbered 1Z8748S900001 - 1Z8748S906502.  The 90 in the VIN varifies the fact that its an actual Pace Car.  The fifth digit
4 = L82, replace that 4 with a L and its a L48.

And yes the decals came in the box, it was the new owners option to have them installed.  A lot of new Pace Car owners wanted to keep the cars as original as possible so they kept the decals in the box.
